location of constant 12v source in door?

The idea is to not go tearing into the wiring on a wild electron chase.

Is there a non-switched constant 12v source in door of an 85 TC? (options: premium sound, no power door locks, no light group)

The wiring for the door latch is there but it's switched.  Wiring for the window motor is switched.  Wiring for the mirro is switched, I think.

if the car in question has keyless entry/illumination package then there will be constant 12v in the door but I am unsure of which wire it would be.  Jcassity or thunderchicken would be the one with the correct answer.

the door lock wiring may be in the door already. just not connected to anything.
there's really no power locks in the car?

the only wire I can think of close to the door would be the door courtesy lamp switch (door switch.  The wire would be LG/Y and could be intercepted for a power feed in the wire loom leading into the door itself.

Im not sure what you are doing,, just answering the question.

As the doctor has said, you porbably have a power door lock harness landing somewhere mid point of the door so there you will likely have another option.

Car came w/out power locks and w/out illuminated entry.

The wiring for the illuminated entry is there but it isn't what I'd call 'constant'.  I'm looking for a 12V source available regardless of the light or ignition switch position (same as the memory circuit for a radio).

The goal is power locks.  I've got the solenoids installed and functioning (maybe).  I'd like to minimize the work involved in wiring them.

The door lock actuators are not solenoids.
They are motors. To operate them you have to be able to control the polarity to motors so you can control which direction they run.

ahh,,
the fun circuit:rollin:
per diy link below

Not as bad as it looks but you get the drift.

I believe a simplified circuit could be developed although the above is about as simple as it gets and keeps both the relay coil and high current carrying contacts both fused appropriately.

when wiring, just remember to do a -12v for one motor operation and a +12v for the other.  You could then wire up each lock/unlock switch accoridingly.  Better toss in a power seat circuit breaker in the circuit x 2 for test purposes (and likely permenant) so as to not catch anything on fire or cause other problems back to the interior.

Your probably better off to supply yourself with a CB power feed up to the point where it is needed in the door and fab up your own harness.

A little insurance to keep this circuit from possbily backfeeding something.

The dented DD has power everything.  The other was low-optioned.

I ordered a bakers dozen of relays, plugs, and solenoids to do both cars.  Then I discovered that the solenoids weren't a straight swap for the DD.  Then I discovered that typical prices for replacement lock actuators are AIG-bonus expensive.  A week or so ago somebody posted a link for replacement actuators that didn't cost me any reproductive organs, so they're going in the DD.  Didn't see that in time to keep me from drilling out the PS rivet:punchballs:

The one undergoing the rebuild at the moment has the solenoids installed.  To minimize the wiring hassle, I wanted to put the relays in the door and tap into a local constant source.

Thanks for the link to the diagram.
