rear main seal

hello.  i'm going to have the trans out real soon and as long as the trans is going to be out,  i'd like to replace the rear main seal.    i can't find much on that.    has anyone ever done it before or seen anything that can be passed along that would help me?

ok.  since you put it that way,  i'm not so intimidated anymore.  automatic transmission-  now that's intimidating.  that's why i don't even want to look at it once it's out.  it's getting picked up and i wont see it again until it's rebuilt.  So i'll have a rare chance to do the rear seal and flex plate bolts (i mean loctite if they need it).  anything else while the trans is out?

New tranny mounts are super cheap.

as in tap it in with lots oil lube or you will damage the outter ribs.  Dont use grease or it may not go in that easy and will take up space preventing it from poping into its intended spot.

I tapped it in with the handle on a wooden mallet. The transmission is the hard part. As long as you have a jack for the transmission and the car on ramps, it should go in nice and fine. It's alot easier with two people just in case though.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
