I got a job finally

So I got a job as a computer tech person at alorika(formally packard bell). The job is just down the street from me. It pays $8.50/hr, which isnt the best, but considering I was working at little ceasars before for $5.50 it kicks ass. I will get at least 40 hours a week. I havent been around lately because my dsl modem took a dump on me, and quest is being a bitch about it. Anywho, I guess that you could say that car mods, are good to go! :tg:

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Heh.. I remember when Packard-Bell was the scourge of the industry, reputation-wise.. but probably made quite a few of my fellow repairmen (well, I'm not one anymore) a bit wealthier. Now hardly anyone remembers them.

My first IBM-compatible PC was a Packard-Bell 486 SX/20 (before I knew better) with 2 megs of RAM expanded to 6 megs, a 130 meg hard drive, half a meg of video memory expandable to 1 meg, both floppy drives, a 2400 baud modem, and a 14" monitor. Ahhh, the memories that name brings back.

Congrats Haystack, and welcome to hell.  In about a year, you'll be longing for the days at Little Ceasars.  I've been in the biz for six years now.  Just remember to keep a sense of humor and you'll be fine.  If you want an outlet to vent, I started a blog a couple of weeks ago about stupid users.  Lets me vent when a user does something that is so stupid it defies all logic.  http://users-suck.blogspot.com  Check it out.

Congratulations man.  Don't worry.  Supporting the masses on the use of computers is not so bad as some people make it seem.  I've been in the tech support business for five years and I supervise a tech support team for an ISP right now.  One thing I try to tell myself whenever I speak with a particularly "slow" person is that they probably know how to do something 1000 times better than I can do it.  So it is all relative.  Patience is the key.

Our old saying from when I used to work in local PC shops:

"Tech support" is usually neither. :p

But anyway.. at least it sounds like you won't have to deal with some of the headaches we used to deal with in the small local shops.. like getting the occasional customer who smells like he hasn't bathed in months, and would hover around in the shop as much as possible while you were working.. probably worried that someone might stumble onto their collection of puppiesity-porn or something. :D

So i am at this new job now. I made $64 dollars yesterday. I am bored out of my mind. A 4 year old could do this stuff.  It looks like I will have no problems with this job. Everyone that I have talked to says that you could do it with their eyes closed. I am in training untill 2 weeks from now

Just taking calls and reading off whatever TechNet (or whatever it was, it's been awhile since I repaired PCs for a living) says to say about the problem?
