Power Doot Lock Actuator Replacement

Can someone tell me how to remove and replace the power door lock actuator? It looks like the bracket that holds it is reveted to the door. Does this have to be drilled out to replace it?

Thank in advance

yep. if need be you should be able to replace it with another rivet or low profile bolt but if i recall correctly you can pop the actuator off of the bracket inside the door.

Any idea on how the actuator comes out. I looked at it and could not figure it out.

there is a lock ring inside it somewhere. The wife has the camera or I would run out and take a picture.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Yes. You might have to swap the rods on the actuators from yours to the mustangs though. There are a few different types. I used 88s in my 86. All I did was swap the plastic clip that they go in to the 88 style.

You DO NOT have to drill out the rivet.  THe actuators are easily removed from the swivel arm assembly that is riveted to the door.  Use the old swivel arm and take the actuator out and replace that with the new one while leaving the old swivel arm in place.  As you can see in the pic provided, you can slide the actuator out through the openening in the swivel arm.

50resto.com has a set for $60.....They come with a few different rods for multiple different applications.

They work just as well as the much more expensive Ford replacement ones.....The last Ford replacement I purchased lasted less than a year.  The 50resto one that replaced it has already lasted longer...

Hope this helps.  :)

yep, they pop right out after you unclip the rod. takes about 30 seconds to get one out. a little longer to get it back in.
I got pics somewhere if you need them for a "how to" that i didn't finish

V8demon, thanks for the link.  Im adding that to my diy link because as it stands now,, i need 6
two for the LS
two for the 20th
two for the bronco.

im shure all of the above will work with the actuator you posted.

Was the electrical connector pretty much plug and play or repin required?
