Stock Head Question// Help Please.. March 23, 2005, 05:28:27 PM stock 302 and 351w heads... which are better to port and should i get a few thousand milled off?? what exactley should i ask to be done and please keep in mind its a stock 302 bottom end with an xcam going in...which head would flow better.. Iron GT40s are much better, but still old school. These days there are several aftermarket heads out there that kick their ass.BTW, I would NOT use the X cam unless you can get some better heads than stock. I'ts a heavy breather on the top end and stock heads run out of breath about the time that cam gets goin'. Quote Selected

A buddy of mine had the exact same combo as me except I had some stock GT40s off of a '93 Cobra and I had a little bit of an edge over him, even though I was heavier. When he swapped over to the edelbrock heads though, I couldn't think about keeping up with him. Quote Selected

The GT40s I had came out of the wrecked '93 Cobra I bought for parts. I later sold them for $300 and bought a set of AFR 165s for $600. It helps a whole lot if you know a lot of people in the mustang community as they are always trading parts. I've heard some talk about mustang guys being jerks, but most of them are very complimentary of a quick t-birdor mark vii(cougar to I would assume), just don't tell em you don't have a mustang cause everybody and their grandma has on lol.
