vent window question.. Reply #1 – December 16, 2008, 04:36:39 PM I believe it was an option for the '83-'86 cars.I would imagine replacing the entire door to get the full glass, unless you can find a way to knock out all of the vent hardware, trim, weatherstripping, glass... Quote Selected

vent window question.. Reply #3 – December 17, 2008, 06:03:55 AM Every '83 Heritage T-Bird i've seen has had them. Most Elans have them also i think.Otherwise its a rarely chosen option on the 83-86 cars. Not sure about swapping the internals... YET. :hick:Hopefully this summer (20degrees out right now and no garage) i can get to my vent window swap project.Since i picked up a set of these for swappin' parts:The whole vent window assembly does come out fairly easily. (Had to swap one out due to a broken hinge):I'll try and make a write up on it too if all goes well. Quote Selected
vent window question.. Reply #4 – December 17, 2008, 09:10:33 AM It was a fairly popular option when these cars were new. I'd guess maybe 20-30% of the cars had them. Don't forget that air conditioning was still an option on most models. Dealerships almost always carried a "value leader" car (stripped-down) with virtually no options, but a/c--a relatively expensive option--could be substituted easily with the cheaper vent windows. As time goes on the vent window option has become more of a novelty. I like them, though...they really add functionality in nice weather.Vent windows can easily be removed from the door, as Romeo2K has noted. The vent windows simply unbolt from the door; remove the runner (weatherstrip around the window perimeter); and remove the glass. Substitute everything from a non-vent window door (glass, runner, inside dew wipes, outside dew wipes or entire lower window trim) and you've made a standard door. I believe the window regulators are the same for either door setup. The same would hold true for anyone wanting to swap in vent windows. The holes for bolting up the vent window assembly are already in the door, as well as the alignment hole.Vent windows did require dual power mirrors, though. I don't believe a manual mirror setup (driver or passenger side) will allow a vent window to work properly. Quote Selected
