electrical system taking a dump?

Just today part of my third digit of my odometer faded away. Sometimes it comes back on, sometimes it's just not there...
So now the three looks like a backwards F.

Also, either I'm getting 40mpg, my gas gauge has barely moved.
I filled it with 5 coming home today and it went up one dash.
The last time I got gas was Sunday, i put 10 in which gave me 3/4 tank, now... In the past few days i've driven to work, which is a 30 minutes stop and go ride to and from about 15 miles, girlfriends today and sunday after gas, which was like maybe 35 miles total. so, 50 miles so far.
Now, I had 3/4 tank before all that driving...now before i added 5, it was at 1/2 tank...so i burned 1/4 tank driving 50 miles.
If I add 5 when i'm on E, I get 2.4gallons which brings the gauge to just before the 1/4 mark....
So if my calculations are correct I am getting about 23-30mpg... Now, how the heck could that be possible on such a py car like mine? I have one old and one brand new O2 sensor which i think would throw my mpg out the window, right? cause each sensor handles it's side of the engine?

The first time i ran out of gas no low fuel light came on, as a matter of fact, my low washer, low beam out, low fuel, all but the seat belt and oil come on when they are supposed to.

I've pulled my cluster and did the 199mph mod and checked all the bulbs.

So the only possible thing i can think of is a fuse or relay is blown.

I'm confused.

Today my car had noticable misfiring at ilde, the engine was jumping around, never stalled though, but the rpms went pretty low. Now it ussually does this when it's extremely low on gas because the pump isn't picking up gas. But I got 10 which gave me a full tank(had half a tank). Still did it, so I ruled it out that it was because my spark plug wires and distributor were still wet from yesterdays engine cleaning.

It stopped doing it after I let the wires dry out.

I don't mean to be exceptionally mean about this, but have you ever considered getting out of the 16-22 year old car thing and getting maybe a slightly used Honda Civic?

I'd love to, but I don't have the money for a new car, this is the only car I can afford.
The car only cost me 400, and at the time I had 1200 saved. Now if I bought a 94-97 civic i would've been left with no money for insurance.
I don't mind doing the work on the car, I have 2 weeks of free time to work on it. It's just why do you have to do so much work to do so little?

I also prefer not to follow the trend of all teens driving civics, I like my older cars.
