Finally getting the cat dualed out!!

Finally after some time i have gotten my x pipes, int. pipes and my lers, going to install them this weekend:headbang: anybody have any tips they could give?

All I can think of is make sure everything fits in its respective spot, make sure you've bought the right parts, and then install everything loosely, dont crank down any bolts until everything fits where it needs to fit and sits the way it should, nothing is going to hit anything i.e. driveshaft, the road, you get the idea. :rollin:  Then start tightening it all up, once it's all in harmony and nothing is bound up/not mated together.

2.5" Duals, no cats, Flowmaster 40s, Richmond 3.73s w/ Trac-Lok, maxed out Baumann shift kit, 3000 RPM Dirty Dog non-lock TC
Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...

Thanks man the x pipes are from an 87 mustang for shorties hopefully they will clear everything and as u problably know my 20th already has the double hump crossmember so hanging and clearing that wont be a problem, ill let you know how it goes!

The mid pipes (between the X-Pipe and lers) on a Stang are shorter than a Bird/Cat,and the tail pipes for a Stang are generally too short as well.I had custom pipes made for the mid pipes (ball and socket style),and the tail pipes were lengthened to fit the car then the tips welded on after I cut my bumper cover.As stated above,fit everything loosely and test it all before tightening anything.If you don't have a floor shifter,the header may be a little tricky on the driver side due to the shift linkage.If you DO have a floor shifter,no worries at all..Removing the smog equipment made the passenger side installation (and removal ) a breeze.

well hopefully im way ahead of all that.... grinded down some of the linkage and removed all that smog junk when i ripped out the old exhaust im sure i still may have a few more mods to make as nothing ever goes as i plan it:mad:  appreciate all the tips...:bowdown:

....and as i figured i  have run into a snag :mad:  the column shifter linkage is still in the way, even after it has been grinded down. i know if i removed it, put the s together then put the linkage back together it would be fine. im not exactly sure how to remove it - any help?

Can you see roughly how it's put together? All that you need to disassemble is the bracket that bolts to the subframe, far to the driver's side. The bracket is roughly a triangular shape.
 

 
 
In that picture it's the piece in the bottom right corner of the picture, bolted to the frame with two bolts.
 
On the top part of the picture...the rod right next to the h-pipe bolt, the rod you ground down, shoulda been anyway....that fits into a grommet at its other end. That's it. It just sits in the hole, not bolted in or held with a cotter pin or anything, so it should slide right out when you pull the bracket away from its mounted position. The rest of the linkage is pretty self-explanatory IMO...but feel free to keep on askin' if youre not sure.

well all i really need to dissasemble is the horizontal rod but if you take that triangular bracket out should that and the rod come out as one piece?

Yeah that's how ya get it out, undo it and slide it backward, the rod only goes into the recession about 1/4" or so, pops right out.
