4.6 head removeal

am i right in thinking the front end of the motor needs broken down to get the heads off?

or,,,,,can the cam gear of each head be removed leaving the chain on so the heads can be removed like normal?

I am being asked to pull heads and reinstall them.

I believe there is a tensioner that will suck the chain down into the cover... I know you need a tool to lock the cams to reinstall the the chain... Son-in-law did one and said they tried to hold them with vice grips but would slip and timing would be off...

The day the head(s) has to come off the '93 GM, is when it will be junked...

i was hoping someone on here would know.

Hey vinnie,, you've seen plenty of em broke down in the jy,, what are you thoughts?  as it relates to my first post?

Lookin to remove the cam pullys and then take off the heads.  Now that tom pointed out the tension pully issue, Ill know to pay attention to that so i get to keep the slack up top.

Id hate to venture out to other forums,, gotta make profiles and become a member and such and im not in the mood to do all that.
