Yea that's what i thought.
He is driving an 87 though and it should only have the 2.73s as i believe that was the only stock gear in those, unless it was changed.
Had 3.27s in my last bird with a 7.5 rear but i changed them from the stock 2.73s when i worked at ford.
Now that i have the TC i've got the 8.8 rear with the 3.73s which is mint because i don't have to spend any money on my rear to accomodate the 5.0L.
This is one of the things that "Ford in there infenite wisdom" did right.
Speaking of that, anyone know of any other 80s or 90s ford cars that had factory 3.73s?just a thought.

I hate to say this but the most fun i had was when i had my Z28 with a mild motor and a NOS cheater kit.  The car was almost stock with just headers and rebuild motor with so so pistons.  I could beat on the car time and time again and it would work fine.

My Cougar was the same way i could beat on it but it was right at limit of were mild parts start to go snap. The car was not that fast when u see other cars do but it drove to the track and 30,000 miles a year on the car.

My T bird should be in high 12s on the motor and i want deep 11s high 10s on the bottle with ET streets.  Em i asking to much?  I dont think so,  But i know i will snap stuff if i dont put my car on a diet.

I have a bone stock 87 XR-7.  5.0, AOD, 2.73 posi 7.5 rear.  The car has almost 300,000 miles on it, and I ran a best of 16.36 with it last year.  The motor leaks big time right now, but it's running to strong to tear it apart at the time, so I'll keep driving it and collect the parts for the HO conversion.  I have everything for a HO Speed Density swap, but I plan to rus MAF so I can add a SuperCharger later.

Sounds like your setup should be a little faster, but all the numbers seem to add up right.  By looking at your 60 foot time, looks like you have the 2.73 gears as well.  Great for fast cruising on the freeway, but sucks the rest of the time.  You can find a Ranger pickup in the wrecking yard and take the 3.73's out of one or the 3.43's, and that will improve your 60 foot, help a little on ET, but not MPH.

To me that looks about right too.  You really haven't done all that much to the motor and you're trying to push a heavy car down the track.  With the weight, gears and the power you have on tap 15sec is pretty good.

All of you are making me feel good.  I too run 16.30's at Bakersfield in a 3240# T'Bird, only I'm doing it with a stock 3.8L V6.  Chassis is tweaked, 4.1 gears, w/ Trak Lok, headers, AOD shift kit and 3000 stall convertor.  Motor is stock, except for valve springs and a Holley 500 CFM 2 BBL carb.  Lots of untried things for the motor.  I'm still try to decide on a built V6 or go fast V8.  I have this thing for underdog combinations!  P.S.  When I started I was running 19 seconds!  Fred

If you can keep the head gaskets in it..go for the built V6 ;)
