C5 gear missing?

Just wanted to check with you guys and see if there was a simple fix for my problem.  I got a C5 off a guy and he didnt know if it worked or not. So I put a filter in and fresh oil. Rev, 1st, 2nd all work. the 1-2 shift is fairly hard. But there is no Drive. What would be the cause of this.

The tranny was just to get my project moving before winter but if I can get it to work ill just run with it till it blows up.

Thanks
Doug

I guess im not to sure. This tranny is currently in a mustang and I wasnt planning on using any type of kick down. I just thought I could throw it in and shift it manually.

Is there a vacspooge spot on the tranny that I need hooked up. I know when I manually down shift its takes some time before it will do it.

As you can tell im not a tranny guys so any help will be great. Basically I have it bolted to the motor drive shaft in and linkage hooked up and that is it. What am I missing or need to do.

I am not a tranny guy either. I am just reading the 84 shop manual.
and looking at the C5 in my T-Bird. Following the kickdown rod down from the throttle linkage, it goes to the driver's side front of the tranny. The arm on the tranny it hooks to is pointing toward the front. The kickdown rod pushes the arm down for passing gear and pulls it up for normal. Don't know if the arm returns to the normal position on its' own with nothing hooked to it.

Yes there is a vacuum diaphragm that should have a vacuum hose hooked to the vacuum tree. I can't tell from the pictures where it is physically located. The trouble shooting chart symptom for this not working is "All upshifts harsh/delayed or no upshifts".

I lied in a previous post, there is a governor. It is at the rear of the tranny. The output shaft goes through it.
To remove it:
1. Remove the extension housing.
2. Remove the governor housing to governor distributor attaching bolts. Slide the governor away from the distributor body and off the output shaft.

I have no idea what it does or whether it will work without it.

I just got done doing some research online for the tranny and found I need vac to the modulator. Also I believe that is where my fluid is leaking from. So I ordered one just to replace it and that way I know it works. Should be here tuesday.

As for the kickdown I probably wont need it since im just gonna manually shift. Not sure what to do about the governer. Just have to see if its gonna be a problem.

Hope hooking the vac line up gives my drive gear. 1&2 are fun but it would be nice to go alittle faster and lower my rpm when cruising.

My daughter had a vacuum diaphragm on the tranny of her Nisson Pathfinder that sprung a leak. It was sucking tranny fluid into the intake manifold.

I hope you bought the one with the green stripe and not the yellow?

whats the difference?  Do you have a part #. All i did was called up the parts store and ordered a modulator for the original application?

The 84 shop manual doesn't show a yellow stripe.

Green stripe P/N D6AP-7A377-AA    S-SAD(super single area diaphragm)

No identification P/N E2DP-7A377-AA    SAD(single area diaphragm)

Blue cover P/N D7BP-7A377-AA    HAD(high altitude diaphragm)

White stripe P/N D70P-7A377-AA    S-HAD(super high altitude diaphragm)

The P/N ends with AA. It won't let me put more spaces in to seperate it a little.

Well, I installed the new vac modulator and ran the hose to the vac tree. Now it slips in 2nd but 3rd did come around but also slips. Im guessing the tranny is toast.

the modulator was a green strip

Just checking, did you make sure you installed the 5/8 long pin, before you put the new modulator in?it can easily be lost in the oil when you remove the old one.

I did install the pin. The tranny wasnt slipping with the old modulator and no vac. but with the new it slips in 2nd, 3rd. but atleast I know there is a 3rd gear.
