trans questions

I just got my cougar back from it's first transmission service since I've owned it, they put in a new dipstick because the tube was leaking.

I am noticing two things that still aren't fixed and I'm a lil lost.
1.  When I shift straight down into overdrive from park, the car stays in neutral until I shift down into regukar drive then back up into overdrive, what's that about?
2.  When the car shifts into drive I get an air hissing sound inside the car, sounds like it's coming from the driver's side but since it's all a mechanical linkage I don't have a clue where that could be coming from or what would be making that noise.

I'm not going back to the shop unless I have to, the tech did exactly what I asked him to do, stop the leak, so it's not his fault it still has issues.

Anyone have any ideas?

Try ajusting the linkage,or it might be loose somewhere and binding.the air maybe the auto park brake release, guessing there, never had to deal with one.

Yea the linkage is loose its still in the N position hasnt moved enough.

And x2 on the auto parking brake release. If ya dont mind losing it (yeah GOTTA have that lol) yank the vac line from the tree on the firewall near the brake booster. Forgot which one I think the hard plastic white one but be sure to cap off the tree either way.

Awesome.  I will get into the linkage tomorrow night after work maybe.  Thanks guys.  I just adjusted the TV cable a little bit too just to make sure it's good to go.

Do your guys' cougars have a really stiff throttle spring.  It seems like it takes an awful lot of effort to push the gas pedal down.  I'm used to lil imports lately though so maybe it's just me but I don't remember my mustang having that particular issue.  I see the throttle body spring is looking a little corroded but it's not binding and closes al the way just fine.  Maybe the cable is gunked up..  I'll pull the throttle cable off it in a day or two and see if that's where the resistance is coming from.

I think I'm gonna love this car...

Sounds like a cougar to me, stiff pedal and the linkage needs adjusting every year. Does your steering squeak yet when you turn the wheel?
