what about the stock ho cam in a so? March 14, 2005, 11:42:22 PM i know the fireing order would be different...but would the ho cam work in the so with stock heads or would it just suck ballz? mostly curious. i doubt id go through the trouble of a camswap without getting at least som e7 heads.and what about the cam bearings...weather i used a used cam or a new cam...i guess people swap cams without new bearings... Reply #1 – March 15, 2005, 01:15:04 AM The '86 HO used the E6SE heads and was rated at 200hp, also it had a SO intake and smaller throttle body(58mm) than the '87-'93.My stock '86 5 speed Stang would run mid 14s all day long. OK it did have a 2 1/2" cat back system(14.58@94), and I added the 1.7 roller rockers and under drives(14.51@95.5). The rockers and pulleys picked it up more than the ET would indicate, had severe traction issues. Quote Selected
Re: what about the stock ho cam in a so? Reply #2 – March 15, 2005, 11:02:35 AM did the 86 HO get pretty much the same cam as the 87-93? i know the cams varied a bit through the years, but were still very similar Quote Selected
Re: what about the stock ho cam in a so? Reply #3 – March 15, 2005, 11:24:11 AM The earlier cams were actually better from what I've heard, specifically the 87 and 88's. I found an article online about it a while ago that had the exact specs. Can't seem to find it today. I DID find this:http://home.pon.net/hunnicutt/history_79_93.htmhttp://www.50tech.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4636&highlight=stock+cam+differences+yeay Quote Selected

Re: what about the stock ho cam in a so? Reply #6 – March 15, 2005, 01:11:47 PM what about cam bearings. im thinking you cant change out the rear ones while the engine is in the car. safe to reuse the bearings? even on a used cam? i figure ill mess around with this engine for now bot i dont want to go out of my way to wreck it... Re: what about the stock ho cam in a so? Reply #7 – March 15, 2005, 07:37:36 PM Never heard of cam bearings being a problem, even on used bearings and cam. As far as I know about the only time they are replaced is during a rebuild...If you want that 5.0 to rev, you'll need some better valve springs. Even the HO springs are about like mush, my '86 HO would only pull to about 5200 before it went soft... Quote Selected
