The Mercury...I mean Jaguar Messenger March 20, 2005, 05:26:38 PM They are actually putting this into production as the Jaguar XK8.Look familiar?http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=9&article_id=1964&page_number=1 Quote Selected

Re: The Mercury...I mean Jaguar Messenger Reply #2 – March 20, 2005, 07:41:17 PM Both are concept cars, and besides the same color and number of doors they look absolutely nothing alike. What made you think they were the same car?http://www.seriouswheels.com/top-2003-Mercury-Messenger-Concept.htmhttp://www.seriouswheels.com/top-2005-Jaguar-Advanced-Lightweight-Coupe-Concept.htm Quote Selected
Re: The Mercury...I mean Jaguar Messenger Reply #3 – March 20, 2005, 08:20:29 PM I never said they were the same. Nothing alike? Well let's disagree on that one. Looks like the same design team worked on both to me. The Messenger was actually released first. It's as if the Jaguar concept (soon to be XK8) is part of an evolutionary process. It would seem to me that Ford decided to give what came from this evolution to Jaguar instead of Mercury (where it started). I believe it's just a matter of time before Mercury goes the way of Oldsmobile and Plymouth. Quote Selected

Re: The Mercury...I mean Jaguar Messenger Reply #5 – March 21, 2005, 12:53:01 PM It wasn't the same design team. The Messenger was by a Ford studio in Detroit and the Jag was done in England. I have the press releases for the Jag somewhere if you want names. Size, proportions, roofline are all different. I am missing the connection. :) Quote Selected
Re: The Mercury...I mean Jaguar Messenger Reply #6 – March 21, 2005, 03:14:22 PM No, I'll take your word for it. It's just that to me the Jag looks like an Aston Martin mixed with the Messenger. I didn't honestly know if there was a size connection as you mentioned. It was just how it struck me upon seeing it. What does amaze me is the fact that Mercury has become the ill-fated step child of it's Ford parent. Sure, they got the new Montego (Ford 500), but it seems that those ARE nearly identical. Remember when Ford and Mercury had cars with the same, chassis, motor options, wheel and tire options, color options, and convenience options, but they actually had some different sheetmetal? Except for the original Sable and many (but certainly not all) Cougars, there hasn't been a Merc like that since the 60s. All Mercs are cheap makeovers of Fords. :(Oh and I gotta say that Jag is hideous in the press kit, the details are poorly done. Looks slick from some angles, but its just plain odd. Doesn't bode well for the production Jags. Quote Selected
Re: The Mercury...I mean Jaguar Messenger Reply #8 – March 21, 2005, 07:39:15 PM not to stir up anybody, but doesn't FoMoCo own Aston-Martin as well as Jag? -or a share of them maybe? Quote Selected
Re: The Mercury...I mean Jaguar Messenger Reply #9 – March 21, 2005, 10:08:38 PM Yup Jag is owned by Ford. The 3.0 and 2.5 in those X-types are Ford Duratecs and they own most or all of Aston Martin I believe..... Quote Selected
