What had the 4.2 liter engine?

I would like to know, would it be ok to use the rods and piston and crank in 4.2 on my 3.8 block( junkyard motor 4.2)

Newer F-150's I think and now the new Freestar vans both use the 4.2.  Hell, I think even the new '05 stang V6's are 4.2s

Just remember if you wanna swap blocks, only the truck will work.  The FWD 3.8Ls use a different bellhousing.

I know Ford made a 4.2L 255c.i. v8 from I believe 1980-1982 and stuffed them into fox cars and in some  LTD's. I had one in a 1980 Thunderbird, blew it up!
You are probably talking about a newer fuel injected motor though

The late model 4.2 is a 3.8-based V6 (it's just a stroked version). It was available in 97-05 F150 and 97-03 E150. It also comes in Freestar minivans, but as mentioned above that is a different block.

Brian, the Mustang uses a SOHC 4.0, not a 4.2. The only vehicles to use the esshag (3.8 or 4.2) engine now are the Freestar and the F150 heritage. When the Heritage is phased out I'd bet the 4.2 will die with it as the 4.0 becomes the base engine, and the Freestar will likely ditch it when the 3.5 Duratec finally comes out. The end of the road for the venerable Esshag is near...
