Stupid O2 sensors March 20, 2005, 01:36:25 PM I nearly broke my arm after trying to replace the passenger side O2 sensor. I can't get any type of wrench in there. I have a O2 socket, i've tried pliers, rachets, open ended, nothing will fit in the tight spot. I tried going behind the engine, on the side, underneath the car. The ****ing smog pump shiznit is in the way and the bolts on the precats are so rusted I can't get the smog pipe off. I'm never buying a ford again, this car is nothing but trouble, the layout of everything is like a monkey designed it. Quote Selected
Re: Stupid O2 sensors Reply #1 – March 20, 2005, 02:01:42 PM P-L-E-A-S-E, don't start this again. Having one -ass Ford car is no reason to condemn the entire company. Worse comes to worse, unbolt the whole manifold and take the o2 out in a Vise. Quote Selected
Re: Stupid O2 sensors Reply #2 – March 20, 2005, 02:06:12 PM Whoever said that working towards a goal was gonna be easy? You've posted enough for me to figure out that when you first got this car it had been neglected and abused. You've also given the impression that you want it to be a top notch automobile that runs darn near perfect. News Flash! Your gonna need to get your hands dirty, your fingers cut, your wits pushed to their end, and your head weary. You think that one of these is a pain to work on? Try a PT Cruiser or better yet:http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=1166&highlight=worst+engineshttp://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=1156&highlight=worst+enginesAs far as your O2 sensors, sometimes it's easier to spend 20 minutes moving another part out of your way than spending 3 hours trying to maneuver around it. Re: Stupid O2 sensors Reply #3 – March 22, 2005, 08:24:46 PM Did you try the socket with a combination of extensions and knuckles. The knuckles will allow the socket to be put at an angle while the rest of the extensions come from a totally different angle more freindly to what you have to work with. I have never changed an o2 sensor on that exact vehicle, but I doubt it's any harder than what mine was. Keep a positive attitude man. Quote Selected
Re: Stupid O2 sensors Reply #4 – March 22, 2005, 08:50:33 PM stubbie wrenches work alright. 188mm i think. spray them down with pb blaster and let em sit overnight though. sometimes they can be pretty stubbarn. and you allready know that they are in a sucky place to be stubbarn. Quote Selected
