Read the post with the Jaguar XKE on Page 10. Wow.
HOA = way for snobby, weaselly, *$$H*L*S to get their freak on telling other people how to live their lives. For me, HOA = dealbreaker. I'd rather live in an older, established community where people actually know their neighbors rather than just concern themselves with whether their neighbors fit their mold.
There are a lot of posts on vandalizing the HOA president's car. While a brick, super-glued locks, keying, acidic chemicals, etc. sound tempting, these all pale next to what is possible. Someone like that has a much more serious vulnerability, and there is only one true response:
Zoysiagrass (or just Zoysia).
Lawn freaks hate it because it's thick, heavy, and turns brown in the winter -- and because it's voracious. We have it on our lawn, so I know what it's like. Once you have it, you'll never get rid of it. The thought of HOA members contending with a never-ending plague of zoysiagrass makes me just...
