87 Turbo Coupe Convertible

Some one is most likely going to try and hang me for this, but I didn't realize a company made a cougar convertible in 87, so:

How sweet would it be to have one of these bad boys with a turbo coupe front clip and tailights.  lowered, sick (ford) wheels.  stiffen the chassis, upgrade suspension etc..  mmmm...  Could be bad ass!

ask eric. Have you ever driven a convertible? There nice in the summer, but in the winter they suck. Also, no matter how much you try to stiffen them there is still alot of flex. My friend has a 89 convertible cavi and every time he turns you can see gap in the door lines.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

oh, I know...  my dad had a fox mustang convertible.  no where near as fun as a coupe.  but I do have to say:

1.  I currently live in CA, winter is no big deal and
2.  If you have a car that rare and you live in a place where winters are bad, what are you doing driving it in the winter?!?  :D

anyway, I know all the convertible issues, just think it'd be a sweet looking, novelty (for the lack of a better term) car!

Considering there are like two '87 Cougar convertibles in existence, it'd be far worse to cut one up to turn it into a Thunderbird than it would be to drive one in winter :hick:

If you wanted a convertible T-Bird it'd probably be easiest to graft the roof hardware and glass from an SN95 ragtop. Or, if you wanted to get really fancy, find a wrecked (or theft recovery) 2007 or newer hardtop convertible Sebring and graft that roof on...

kind of off topic but not How cool would it be to have a chop top and traga top Turbocoupe?

i dislike T-tops because a traga top 2 me seems more like a 1 step thing and you don't gotta worry about the glass windows breaking.

Also chop tops for our car are super rare and with the top of the car lower any nice rims would look awesome on the car.

Back in the day, Ford was talking about having a retractable top on the birds that kept the quarters intact.  Imagine the roof panel and rear glass being a soft top that retracted into the trunk.

I've always wanted to make a TC into a targa top car.  Problem is, the door frame goes across the roof.

I was gonna keep this a secret. But perhaps getting it out in the open can give me motivation.. Here goes....

Obviously, I have a Convertible cougar. my plans are making it a Convertible / T-top / Targa / Retractable. It's a LOT of work but i already have t-tops glass, and cut a t-top roof off a capri.. having a Cougar with the roof already cut off gives me great leverage to start building my custom roof :D
