valve covers

dose anyone know how hard it is to put new seals on valve covers and what do i have to take off to do it

88 5.0L aod with duel flowmaster and speedo mod
88 5.0L H.O with 5 speed R.I.P
87 3.8L no trans. geting h.o and 5speed (project never ending thunder) started it as of 8-14-10

Pull the upper intake,remove the 6 bolts from each valve cover,remove the valve covers,clean the mating surfaces of the valve covers and the heads really good,purchase new rubber valve cover gaskets,place them on the heads,place the valve covers on top of the gaskets,bolts them down (it doesn't take much to torque them down),re-install the upper intake,done.

is their a patern to bolt down the valve covers

I'm sure there is.I just start from the middle and work my way out.Snug them,then tighten them.There's only 6 per side.

The rubber ones are really nice,reuseable,and seal great with no sealer.

CORK SUCK
this is a simple job
best off throwing a thin bead of sealer on it to be safe
and watch wireing connectors and vacuum lines!!

I welcomed the dark side and currently am driving a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT plus, with a 5.9, Code named project "Night Runner"
Shes black on black, fully loaded, with headers, 180 tstat, e fan, straight exhaust into a cherry bomb vortex ler, full tune up, ported intake and T/B, MSD coil, and round aircleaner.
Mods to come: Fully rebuilt and heavily modded 46RE, and a richmond rachet locker.

Meh I've used cork Felpros with no leaks for years :mullet:
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

all ive ever used is cork.

rubber is nice, but cork to me is the only way to go

Yes,there's a difference in the covers,but the gaskets are the same.

Well.. I used the permatex gasket seal maker on both sides of the gasket. I guess time will tell.:D
