Plastic Interior Texture.

A while back I posted asking about how to resurface the plastic interior pieces. I found out that several people on MP3Car.com are using Dupicolor bed liner spray to texture. I picked up a can, sanded down a couple test pieces and here are the results.

Its kinda hard to get a picture of but I really like the result. Its a nice rubbery texture. I dont know if I will stick with the rubbery texture or spray it with a can of vinyl dye (supposedly this will look factory).

It looks to be different from the factory texture, how noticable is it if you put them side by side?

Ill get a shot of that later tonight. I would say its less fine. That is,the bumps are a little larger than the factory stuff. Keep in mind, my console piece was a scratched, cigarette burned, scuffed eyesore previous.

This may not be OEM replicate but its a definite improvement. You can get different texture size by moving the spray away or closer. On future pieces, I think i will work closer and less thick, as the texture spreads out a little as it dries. I plan on doing my dash surround and radio surround the same way.

Does this come in different colors? My interrior is that dark presidential blue, It'd be interested in trying this out. I just sprayed my center console with duplicolor paint, and it looks ok. The grain is pretty much gone though.

It only comes in black.
This person says you can spray vinyl color over the top of it to give it whatever color you want.

The only problem with that truck liner is it ses off because it never hardens, tried it on some stuff looks good but the durability sucks

How about some of that textured spray paint I've seen at hardware and hobby stores?It has a cast metal look,then apply some interior dye over that.

I've been using the Duplicolor bedliner for a couple years, and I have found it to be very durable. You can vary the spray distance and make the texture bigger or smaller. It is only a matte black, but I paint over it all the time, again with no issues. In fact the topcoat can help smooth the texture if too coarse.
You have to make sure your plastic is cleaned and prepped before painting.

Dupli Color is some good shiznit! I have used it on several things. For example the underside of my fenders is covered with it being I run no inner fenderwells and it has held up great for 5 plus years now and is not soft at all. I have also painted over it as well such as behind my taillights. Anything that is not painted and is subject to get wet I put Dupli-Color bed liner on. I have tried others but the dupli color seems to be the best in my opinion.
