Need Some Dodge Trans Help

Well as i posted awhile ago, The trans went out/slipped? on my mom's 1989 Caravan.

I'm new to transmission in general, I know it's not a ford~I don't even know that it's a dodge (LOL, The engine is a mitsubishi)...
But you guys rock, Maybe you could help me diagnose what exactly has gone bad.

I still think i can fix this sucker, Is it worth it? probably not... But hey~It gives me something to mess around with.

Anyway,
Heres a thread i posted on a dodge forums and didnt get much of what i was looking for, But has info on the situation:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=5701240#post5701240

At this point it sits in the driveway, Immovable (Has to back out and has no Reverse) waiting for the crusher/junkyard.
Unless, I can fix it. :hick:

I havent dived into the underside of the tranny yet, Waiting for some more info/advice, But i've been trying random odd tricks that most likely wont work... But hey, nothing to lose.

Today i went out and tryed the gears after having the battery disconnected for 24hours (comp controlled tranny stuff, Trying to reset). And pushed a little harder on the gas in Reverse than i have been~This knocked something out of place or loose... Because it kicked like it was going into gear, But then made a light weird grinding noise followed by a kind ticking from the tranny.
Now when you put it into reverse, It just makes the knocking ticking noise from the tranny... (same thing for (D)rive).

Kind of hoping something is just loose, A pin of some sort? a bolt backed out inside? dunno.

I'm gonna assume this was the same noise it made when it went out in the first place, Just wasn't ticking after.

Need anymore info let me know, Trying to figure out what i'm dealing with here...
Thanks!

Try http://www.turbododge.com forums. Theyre pretty good at trannies, doesnt matter if its not a turbo. You sure its the 4 speed and not the 3 speed?

A tranny shouldnt be much at a junkyard if you have to go that route. Them things are like water.

Yea they sure are... Theres always a ton when i go to the yard...
Problem with that is most of them are probably in there because of the trans going out (seems very common).

owch... thats probably what it is, well see here when the weather ever stops being crazy. >.<

The  van is parked on an incline in the front driveway, with no reverse... theres no way to get it out except towing, and the street is right at the top of the driveway. :flame:
I've gotta get this thing jacked up somehow on the incline.

Life is an adventure! lol. Thanks guys.

And thanks for pointing out the trans, It may in fact be a 3 speed.

I tried the gears again, And it seems to be when you go to (D)rive it makes a clunky jolt~Then when you go to (R)everse it makes a kind of moving/rotating? ticking sound.
(R) is completely quiet and no reactive unless you shift over to drive and then back to reverse.
I'm doing this with my foot off the gas pedal btw.

Trying to figure out how to ID the trans now...

I think your best bet would be to focus your questions on a dodge forum like turbododge. Doubt youre gonna get much outta these forums.

Theyre actually pretty simple for a FWD. If you think about it you could be working on a newer fwd...
