TC or Mark Rear? April 18, 2008, 04:44:03 PM I have the opportunity to grab a complete 87-88 MarkVII 8.8 rear axle assembly for under $80, but im not exactly ready to do the swap and have some questions (as usual). :hick:For starters, Would this kill off anything in my V6 auto car? lol.Would i need anything extra to put it into a v6 car? i only ever see this done on a v8. :-PWould the 87-88 TC assembly be a better choice? What should i be looking for on the axle tag for a Mark that indicates trac-loc?Does the Mark Setup have the quad shock setup, and does an 83-84 bird have mounting holes for that already, like the later models? (just needs brackets?).Thanks much. Quote Selected
TC or Mark Rear? Reply #1 – April 18, 2008, 05:01:03 PM Which one is best depends on your final goal... Likely the Mark has a 3:27 gear, same as your V6 and it may or may not be Traction Lock(the one I had wasn't)... It will be 5 lug, so that's a plus if you want to go that route, but remember you'll need some five lug wheels and the Mark axles are a bit longer... The TC rear will be four lug, defiantly have Traction Lock and 3.55 or 3.73 gears, plus will be the same width... Both have disc brakes but are different from each other, with the Mark's being larger...I believe the '86 up Marks have the quad shocks but don't really remember for sure... Quote Selected
TC or Mark Rear? Reply #2 – April 18, 2008, 05:38:25 PM yea, I've been doing some reading up on them, both have some bonuses it looks like.I'm all for upgrading anything i have currently, So 5 lug and rear disc brakes are a go.im reading of a 1" increase with the axle length on the Mark assy, which actually sounds great~And probably looks pretty good on the tubby 83-86 fox bird body depending on tire/rims.And bigger brakes is better i'm assuming? aren't they also vented on the mark? How is running lines and such from the stock setup to a mark setup? And i'm going to want trac-loc, so i need to know how to ID this on the axle.A TC setup seems like it would bolt right up no problems, but i would have to upgrade to 5 lug at a later point...The disc brakes don't seem as good as a marks? smaller... not vented? But has more options for diff gears and such.Dunno...Leaning towards a Mark setup unless someone convinces me otherwise.Mustang parts around here are pricey and un-common, so i'm not gonna go that route more than likely. And like i said wasn't ready to the swap at all, My conventional 7.5/2.73 setup is in great condition~But parts just keep popping up... People are junking there cars out like crazy lately, The cost of s metal is up or something...Figure i would snag up the stuff to do the swap now and save some money/searching later, heh. TC or Mark Rear? Reply #3 – April 21, 2008, 09:11:34 AM Well like said it depends on your final goal. The TC rear is a easy swap. If your going to be doing a big power jump in the plan then odds are you will get upgraded axles.I did the TC swap then went spool and strange axles for a few years. Now i have 9 inch. Plans always change. Quote Selected
