That's true, but the part is not always limited to that year. The F7 tells you it was created for the 1997 model year, but it may have been used much later too. In this case, thanks to Birdman, it looks like it was used in 1997 and 1998. Some parts, such as engine components, can be used for many many years. A "D0xx" part was created for the 1980 model year, but you may see that p/n prefix on parts up into the 90's and beyond. No big deal, I just didn't want anyone to think the prefix guaranteed the year. It can get you close, but it is not absolute. You need the date code for that.

Also, if the part is used in later models and is "improved" or otherwise modified, you may be using a newer part number. For instance, the caliper pins for the TC rear discs originally had an E7 P/N, but that one was obsoleted for the 1F1Z-2V386-BA P/N. This obviously wouldn't apply in the case of tailights :hick: , though I suppose it could have happened with '87-'88 Cougar headlights where they are the same as also used on a Lincoln.

LOL, that's funny!  I've had "CRUISE CLIP FOR SCOTT" on my list for the last few weeks as well!  Unfortunately I haven't made it out to any yards lately...

Anyway, good luck selling that light!  It seems better than what happened to me.  Bought a NIB right outer marker lamp and got a rear corner lamp for an MN12 or something...

double check your math.  DOxx numbers are 70s. "E"s are 80s, "F"s are 90s.....:hick:
