wow. i feel like i just stepped into this century!

i have been puttin off upgrading my system for a (long)while. ive been workin with an old G3 beige desktop and OS 10.2.8
hell i was still runnin 9.2 last summer :hick:

i am pickin up a used Mac mini from a friend very shortly, but i needed to upgrade my monitor and keyboard/mouse as well. i went out today and got that taken care of.
20" widescreen LCD and a wireless/USB keyboard and mouse...what an improvement!

the mini is an intel core runnin 10.4.11
i cant wait ;)

I installed it on my powerbook G4.
No problems yet. Installed it the day after Christmas.
Its faster than 10.4.

I was waiting to see if there were any problems before putting it on my power mac.

Wow, I gave up on System 9 years ago LOL. Congrats on the upgrade...I'd love to get a mini someday.

10.5 is good but for me it's not ready for primetimet. A few of the third-party programs that I use don't have a Leopard-ready version yet, so I'm just running it on the 2x2.0 Ghz G5 tower. So far it's been stable and it is definitely quicker. I have Tiger on all 4 other Macs though...and honestly I'd be happy if they ran that forever.

1999 model Yikes G4 350Mhz (500Mhz upgrade; has outlasted MANY girlfriends LOL)
2001 Quicksilver G4 867Mhz
2001 iBook G3 700Mhz
2003 PowerBook G4 1.25 Ghz

Only 2 of those can run Leopard anyway. Tiger 10.4.11 is very stable, like it a lot, don't have an issue using that for many years to come.

I also agree, 10.4 Is pretty solid.
There are a couple things that won't run on leopard for me but its not something that I can't live without.

Only down to 2 macs now
gave my son the Graphite running 10.4

using
04 Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 with 1.5 gigs ram running 10.5 every day stuff
05 Powermac  G5 Quad 2.5/ dual monitor  running 10.4  studio work

Jag was a great idea, but it had no bells and whistles like tiger.

I put tiger on my graphite, and it doubled in speed.
that little G3 700mhz mac was running comparable to my p4 2.6 right next to it. some things it ran faster.

I remember Jaguar as being an absolutely painful install--2+ hours per computer. The greatest thing about Panther, Tiger and Leopard are the networking advances, plus network security particularly with wireless. You won't miss Jag. :)

Oh I live that pain every day at work. Late 2003 P4 1.8 Ghz PC running XP SP2. It *attempts* to run Adobe CS1 programs simulatenously. Usually that results in at least 2-3 restarts every week. Routinely I comment that my 8.5-year-old G4 will run circles around it (and it will).

Meanwhile the PowerBook happily handles anything I throw at it, and usually gets a restart once a month, sometimes longer. Thank God I bring that with me every day...it's saved my bacon so many times. Old Macs don't die, they just find new uses. :)

Your right, My powerbook gets rebooted when there's a new update. I had to install fan controlling software recently. the aluminum case got red hot and it started acting funny after I put leopard on it.
runs a lot better and cooler with the fans actually working. (Apples big power saver idea) The battery doesn't last 3 hrs. anymore with the fans at full speed, But I can touch the computer now without burning a finger. LOL

I also run windows 2000 in its own window on it. Takes a little time to start, but the windows programs run at normal speed on it. (the handful that I use)

you two actually use your macs. i barely scratch the surface of the capabilities of my machine, but it sure is nice to know what i could do if i needed it.

yes jaguar was a eternity to install when i stepped up from 9.2. took some gettin used to, but i was gettin too far behind on my browsing capabilites. i thought i would be runnin classic alot, but it turned out i didnt really miss my 9.2 programs that much....

my G3 only gets a restart for updates as well. im glad to hear tiger will be the same way. the 1.5GHz should be fun too!

You'll have fun. as soon as you use Tiger, your eyes will open to the endless possibilities. and really good free software.
The widgets are my favorite part of a mac.
