Falling out?  I have a hard time getting them out.  Usually takes a screw driver or two.

The spring cant technically fall out unless you remove the cross pin first. There are two solid ends (on opposite sides) that would stop that from happening.

As was said, its the BIGGEST pita to get one back in when you take them out. Worse yet if you shim the  out of your T'lok and use the F150 spring.

??

The cross pin would have to be gone or the spring is broken for that to happen. I used a BFH and a brass punch to put mine in. FMS trak-lok.

Can anyone explain the reasoning to use the F-150 spring??? As I see it, a properly operating unit applies more torque to "lock" the unit the harder you accelerate...

I can see the truck spring would help in poor traction conditions(mud, snow etc), but otherwise the stronger spring is mostly adding wear to the clutch packs... Needles to say, I have the stock spring in mine...

No, can't explain it..........

Oh, wait, it was on the internet once ;)

:D I use it in my stuff. I shim the ever living  out of mine. To the point that you hace to struggle to get the spiders back in, and that the cross pin barely fits. Usually the pin needs tapped in. Now the spring applied preload to the clutches. More preload is good, but you are right, it might / will add wear. On the other hand, the stiffer spring keeps preload on a worn pack so the T'lok works longer without a rebuild. For me, it was the difference between goin an entire season, versus needing to throw clutches at it part way through the season. As you mentioned with mud / snow / etc, well, that is where I would notice it the most. When I would pull out of the water for the burnout, drop the clutch, every now and then it would one leg with a slightly worn pack. Never noticed that with the F150 spring. Even when it would one leg in the burn out, it would hook okay as long as they where both dry.

That said. The single best thing I ever did for my tT'lok was to install a line lock on my car. I used on all of this season, and the carrier that just came out was as still tight and it worked right up until it broke an axle ;) I really think the rear disks dragging on the burn out eat the clutches up.

Also, I will be trying the Cobra carbon composite clutches in mine this year with a standards spring (and all 31 spline stuff :D ). We wil lsee how that works, then make a decission to put the F150 spring back in, or go back to the sintered clutches.

Sorry to hijack but Tom started it ;)

Hi Bob

Sounds like you assemble yours same as me, If the pin slips in, it's too loose...

U B hard on your shiznit... I re-clutched mine in '01, ain't touched it since and remember it's street driven, made four trips to Carlisle(Actually five but I believe I redid the TL after the first trek in '01)... Still works fine(at least in Nov when I last raced it)...

You know what that's from .......... I go way more rounds than you do :shakeass: LOL :D

Yeah, shim them up so you can barely get it together. Really the difference is 5200 rpm clutch drop launches at 12 psi on mine verus 3200 rpm??, auto trans launches on yours. A little difference in shock load there ;) I put about 8,000 street miles a year on this car, bracket race it every weekend, and test and tune a couple times a month. Typically 150+ passes a year and I drive it everywhere (on street tires). I know everyone thinks i'm full of it, but it is my daily driver in the warm months.

Now that's not nice(but probably true)... I launch at more like 2400...

I did take the runner up spot in both of the last races this past season(street class)... Other than a 2nd in the first race, I pretty much fvcked off...

All in good fun Tom ;) Not many other guys that get bracket racing I can poke at on most of these forums. Yours sounds like my year, I started out with three runner up's, did pretty good for a while, then really slid a bit, had a month of first / second round losses, then finished pretty good. Over-all, had the runner up spot pretty covered, but kept running into my buddy in the finals that has my number (421 cu, auto, Nova, lots of sand in his dial in). I ended up 4th in points, like three rounds out of second. Couldnt get to first with a ladder as my buddy ran away with it (seven wins).

I used the F150 spring in my SC.  It makes cornering interesting.
