Took a ride out of work in an ambulance today...

I am a welder for National Steel Car, and was working inside the turnovers, and just finished welding up the car:welder: ..  started sping and cleaning my welds, when I sat and turned to s the roof welds....  all the sudden I felt my back go numb, then a few seconds later EXTREME spasms... :wtf: They had to remove me from the car on a stretcher and take me to the medical dept...  I was at the General in hamilton and in agony for 5 hours... til they gave me a needle in the ass and a couple pills...  now Im just stoned and sore...:barf:

Turns out I tore the support muscles in my back.....  now I am off work til friday at the earliest, and my stupid plant is already bugging me to come in and do office work tomorrow....  YEAH right!!  I think I will obey the doctors orders here... :deal:    I hate mondays...

so how was your guys monday?

Office work = Everything's fine. Nothing to see here, folks.
Time off = Worker's Comp claims, investigations, etc.
Which one would they rather deal with?

Don't feel too bad. At the shop I work in, we have a 6ft deep, drive over pit. When we have two trucks over it, we use a ladder to get in and out of it. Well, today, I had the ladder kick out from under me, bounced off of the overhangs a few times before I fell in.

That wasn't much fun either.
It's Gumby's fault.

Wow got to hate that. Hope it heals well with you. Yes on the heating pads are your best friend right now. Don't let the pain meds fool you and you hurt it worse. I don't know how it is up North but donw here they can't touch you as long as Dr says no work. Just hope you have a good Dr that sides with you and doesn't send you back to work to early.

when it comes to your back do what the dr.s say. trust me i broke my back about 5 years ago. i did everything the doctors told me to. i don't have any problems. i have a buddy that broke his back like i did mine he didn't listen to the doctors and he is in pain all the time. do everything they say. it will pay off. forget work. they have to pay might as well get the good life while you can.

True, you can stay home and get paid. (If you have workman's comp in Canada). What your employer was trying to get you to do was come in and "take it easy" so they would not be faced with a "lost time accident". Lost times are a bif factor in things like insurance rates and eventually in pay rates also. If it were me, I think I would talk to the doctor, if my back would allow it, and go in to work and sit around. If it got unbearable, then just go home. That way it is a win/win for you and your employer.
