need to know if the 1986 cougar xr-7 trim{ checkered silver /gray background with black border is interchangeable with turbo coupe radio etc. trim bezels-other years.is there a match of backgrounds.

The radio/HVAC trim panels on the '85-'88 T-Bird's & Cougar's equipped with the floor shifter console are interchangeable with each other, but the grid-like pattern was used only on the XR-7 models.

Originally, the grid pattern was part of the trim and not available separate from Ford so the only way to get it is to find another trim piece. I'm not aware of anyone making a reproduction "decal" or "overlay" that would duplicate the look of the original.

The Marketplace section on this board would probably be your best bet, followed by the salvage yard or eBay.
It's probably a longshot but there may still be a new one out there and you can ask your local dealer to do a search for one on the dealer network.
The part number you are looking for is E5WY-66044D70-K.
