8.8 IRS info needed

well i dont NEED the info but i was just wondering what you guys know about them and if they go in our cars easily or with lots of modifications.

see i've spent a lot of time reading on a miata forum where they use an 8.8 IRS.  i didnt even know about the 8.8 IRS but i did know that there was an IRS ford rear end in a jaguar.  is that where this comes from or did other cars under the ford badge come with it?

I'm not too interested in putting IRS in my car, i mean im not trying to build a race car, its just transportation to me (if i wanna go fast, i get a fast weekender that doesnt weight like what 2 tons?) but this did intrigue me.

on a side note, is there a locker or limited slip unit that will go into our 7.5's with stock power with aod that is reliable?

ford has three versions of IRS that use the 8.8
  • mn12
  • cobra
  • explorer

the cobra unit can fit our cars with relative ease.

the jag/dew98 IRS is an 8.0 ring gear. completely different

there are a multitude of l/s units and lockers available for the 7.5

Gumby's doing a good job and he's posting here.  You could also see what this guy has done,

although he seems to be slacking off these days.
