steel wheel cross overs? (answered) January 15, 2008, 11:29:55 AM i did a search and came up with nothing to this effect.you see I'm about to get tires now that the car is road worthy again, and i can get some steel rims for 25 a piece or less, and i want to go to like a 15-16 inch steel rim. i was wondering, have you guys ever seen 4 lug 15's 16's that are steelies? i know they're heavy, they're more unsrpung weight, etc etc. but i cant beat the price + tires right now. i got this idea b/c my car came from the used lot wearing steel rims. with such a highly optioned car, i doubt very seriously they came with 92 taurus wheel caps on unpainted steel rims. seems more like they took the 10 holes or snowflakes which ever came on my car off, put them on a mustang and swapped the rims from a mustang.. not positive tho. but have you ever seen a police rim close? thats AT LEAST 16 inches compaired to my 14. i know those are 5 lug, but they got to have 16 inch steelies somewhere in fords line up with 4 lugs. (i would go 5 lug conversion but thats a lot of doin that takes away from a good ride to-from work) Quote Selected

steel wheel cross overs? (answered) Reply #2 – January 15, 2008, 06:43:10 PM I also believe that 4 lug steelies didn't come with anything greater than 14inches.Snowflakes can be found all day for 100 - 150 bucks. Post a WTB and see if anyone has any. Quote Selected

steel wheel cross overs? (answered) Reply #4 – January 15, 2008, 08:21:57 PM bah, i knew there were larger steelies on police cars, greater than 15" too. thats my fav part of the police cruisers. they had that "JAYDEEM TIT" look way before all the imports started doing that. i bet putting the 4 centers in a larger hoop would be more work than going 5 lug. all i need for that is TC rear with Lincoln fox spindals right? You can convert 'em to 5-lug with SN95 Mustang axles, brakes, etc (or you can swap a complete SN95 axle in - probably easier to find).15"-and-16" steelies are available cheap as hell from Crown Vic cop cars, but of course they're all 5-lug (stay away from 2003 and newer - their offset is way wrong).I've never seen a 15" 4-lug steelie - I had always thought SSP Mustangs used aluminum 10-holes painted black. Are their any other vehicles that use the 4X108 or 4 X 4-1/4" bolt pattern that these things use that might have a 15"steel rim option? Perhaps the Focus or Contour? I know MexCougar has Contour rims on his Cougar, but they're aluminum. Quote Selected

steel wheel cross overs? (answered) Reply #7 – January 16, 2008, 12:52:17 PM i just got back from running some sublet work around, and my co-driver , i mean co-worker had to run in a store to get some cigs. so i was sitting in the parkinglot and i noticed a crown vic, well it was a merc, but anyway it had hubcaps on them and i read the tire and it said "225XXR16" so they do have newer steelies in 16's. but like thunderchicken said, i doubt the offset would work. steel wheel cross overs? (answered) Reply #9 – January 16, 2008, 03:25:05 PM yeh i was ganna edit my post to reflect that you're not likely to ever find 4 lug steelies in anything other than 14 MAYBE an obscure 15' that as on some obscure car, but don't bet on it. if you got 5 lug, then you got your pick.i'll stick with my 14's for now until i go 5 lug swap.
