Hello all,

Here's a thought about the ICS motor, I had to do this on my 87 Cougar LS 3.8.  Reset the ICS motor.  The procedure is within the shop manual; it involves a small jumper wire to connect the self-test terminal to another terminal on the self-test; once a connection is made, the ICS will retract, allowing a new 'ground zero'.  Perhaps after the 'arching' effect you discribed has disrupted the ICS motor, resetting it may just solve it.

If you don't know how to do this; or don't have the book, I can look it up for you and post it up here.
