1972 torino 302 engine build

I need some advise on a good build for my 302. I told by an old mechanic that my heads were 270 horse heads. what would you put in this engine to compliment these heads. What size cam I do know I cnnot go bigger than a 488/488 lift without major machine work.
 I have a 600 Holley for the 302.

I would suggest selling your 302 and going to a 429/460 the torinos exspecially the 72 later cars are pretty hefty cars and need the torque of a big block to pull them around.

I had a 70 torino with a built 351w and done the 429 swap (stock 72 stuff with a cam and pre 70 timing set ) and i can tell you there is no comparison in either torque or milage.

If you are set witht he 302 stay with a low rpm cam to help low end torque and stay conservitive/torque biased with your setup.

Older motors are not roller and the 302 has the original firing order so if you’re going to stay small block my recommendation is retrofit the lifters to fit the roller cam, now you off to a good start any late model cam will fit.

351*/ 71-71 /  The 351 Boss was a one year deal... '71 ONLY... In '72 & '73 a lower compression Cobra Jet 351 version was available that was similar to the '71 Boss motor... A few Torinos got the CJ in '72-'73 in addition to the Stangs... I'm assuming the Mercury models received them as well...turbocoupe50.

There no way i would keep the 302 in that size of a car does not have to have a Big Block Ford but no smaller than a 351ci Engine. Post a few pics of the car.

Does not sound great to me!

I would at least find a 351 to play with.
