Can I lose the hood mat?

Or atleast cut it out around the aircleaner?  It looks to be nearly 1/4 inch thick and I'd love to get another 1/4 inch of carb spacer in there.

yes.Mine has been gone for years.....and years.

I took it off. All it seemed to do was make the engine a bit louder.

I pitched mine a long time ago, it had a mouse nest in it and I don't want to give them any more places to hang out.
