Tail lights

Will tail lights from an 84 cougar fit an 86? I really like the round cougar logo i saw on a pair.

Mmmm....not really. How each one mounts to the taillight (metal) panel is completely different. It's possible to cut up your metal and force the other one to work, along with the accompanying wiring changes. But I wouldn't recommend it. I did it...once. What does that tell ya. ;)

i have swapped the 85-86 style tail lights into an 84 and it can be done..... i still have a set of the 84 tail lights in good shape.. i could help you out with the set up and i may still have the harness ill have to double check.  just leave me a message with any questions and ill see what i can do IF you do indeed want to do this.  Eric is correct on the modifications to the metal.  i personally dont think its TOO horrible.  it can be done

would they physicly line up on the outside? i don't mind a little modding inside as long as it looks good outside.

Yes, they would line up fine. The trick is, cutting out that metal also means drilling new holes for the other taillights to mount, so you do have some leeway. In other words, you could move them up, down, sideways, etc. depending on the new mounting holes.

There were some late 1984 cars with 1985 taillights from the factory. That necessitated the new metal panel to be installed at the factory as well. So getting them to look correct should not be a problem, just needs small adjustments at a time. No biggie.
