Stang Mass Air harness question...

I've read the Coolcats tech and it states that an '89 Mustang harness can be used.Has anyone tried this?I have access to that harness, but want to make sure it will work.

I wouldn't.
The stang harness is quite a bit different.
Just use the harness that is in you car, swap the few pins around at the 60 pin,add the additional wires and spice in the other 1 or 2.
This is what i did and it has worked mint for me.
No need to change out your harness just print out the instructions and follow them to a tee.
The hardest part is getting the new maf wires through the firewall other than that you should be able to get it done in an hour or two at most.

A little tip on running the mass air wires...

You may want to think about removing the passenger side inner fender (wheelwell) and running the wires up through there. It's very easy to use one of the existing Swiss-cheese holes in the fender apr0n to run the wires through (use a grommet). By the passenger door area is the antenna hole...if you have a fixed (standard) antenna, note where the antenna goes into the car. Below that, maybe about 6-8", is an empty hole that coincidentally goes right to the EEC processor area. Convenient. ;)

If you have the optional power antenna you will need to remove it to see that hole. Do NOT attempt to run the mass air wires through the antenna hole if you ever want to remove the power antenna assembly again. Ask me how I know this....

Everything can be put in protective wire loom and zip-tied to a number of places. Keeps things nice and neat, and also keeps you from poking into the factory EEC harness grommet.

Another helpful hint brought to you by The E Man™. ;)

Vinnie the Mustang harness has a connector down by the kick panel that our cars do not have.. I cannot remember for the life of me what it is for but if those wires aren't hooked up to there appropriate locations nothing works.  Also the connectors by the booster, or shall I say "connector" is completely different, utilizing one larger connector.  Also the interface for the fuel pump is different.

.If all that about the Stang harness is true,it looks like I'll be re-selling it.I paid $70.00 shipped.I'm sure I can get that back on Ebay.I worry about the whole harness mod, because it seems like every time I try to a mod like this, major (even though there are a total of 6 wires to move, splice, and re-route),something goes wrong.Everything else I manage to do well.I may try it again soon on my current computer harness.I may also wait, and when my replacement computer gets here,re-install the harness I did the conversion on,and see what happens. If it doesn't work, perhaps I'll go ahead and mod the remaining good harness and pray for the best. This sucks.I really don't see how you guys all have succeeded. It's such a basic mod....6 friggin' wires!!!!! (Takes deep breath).I'm ranting,I know.I have the conversion kit in the garage I haven't used yet.Maybe I will.I'll check the new harness (Stang)out when it gets here and see the differences and go from there.

None of the changes necessary for mass air, will keep it from running... Unless something is wired incorrectly...

You can swap to the Mass Air EEC with the stock harness, and it will run if the computer is good... No not like it should, but it WILL run...

Did you read my post in your other harness thread????

I did read that.Sorry I didn't REALLY read it like I should have.I'll probably end up wiring my stock harness that's running my SD computer now,and routing the wires like Eric stated.I'll do it when I get the replacement computer, then,I should be alright.I'll also use the conversion kit this time.

why go mass air. it sux if you ask me .  ok it's should be able to me modded a little more b4 you need real computer work but now adays everything seems to need a "real tune" to run proper.  i think the mass air cars are slower than speed density rite.  dont forget about keeping the meter clean and dri from oils (k&n air filters) you  dont have to worry about that with speed density.

im so tempted to swithch my car to speed density if all i have to do if pull a few pins out and swap a computer. just to see if it's different. my car came factory mass air. (93 stang banger)
trick flow street heat intake , 24lbs injetors, ported GT-40's (Chip) long tube headers. and a Performance Automatic C4, with a hurst shifter!

You can... I set up a '86 Stang to run either system(had dual connections on the EEC connector for the Tab & Tad solenoids, used same setupl on the TC harness) ... Just swap the intake elbows, EEC and reconnect the vac to MAP and it was back to SD, and yes it was quicker...

The Ford Racing Mass Air conversion, just has a piggy back connector that adds the wiring for the air meter, Tab & Tad, speed sensor, and fuel pump monitor are not even addressed... Yeah, a car using it throws a bunch of codes...

I myself wanted mass air so I can swap cams from the H.O to an E303.

Vinnie, I used the conversion harness from IST, (Part # CH-8611-F), on my converted 87 TC. The harness from computer out is from an 87 Sport with an A9L computer. (I have a 5 speed). I can scan my instruction sheets and email them to you if you need them.

Tommym,I'm good.I got it finished yesterday. Stang harness will NOT work.Glad I figured that out before I bought one.I used a conversion harness on my Sport and all is good.I bought an A9P computer, and thinking it was bad,I bought a remanufactured computer from Ebay. Now I know both computers are good.I have the reman in the car,and I'll probably keep the A9P as a backup "just in case".I now ned to get the new cam and other engine parts installed so I can enjoy the benefits of Mass Air.

I've got the IST info in a word file if anyone needs it. Congratulations on the wiring. I wired in the fuel pump monitor and the VSS along with moving the thermactor wiring and have had no problems.

I didn't do the VSS or fuel pump.I had read from many it wasn't necessary.I may do the fuel pump at a later date.It will be an easy one, just have top remove the rear seat and rocker moulding to run the wire. For some reason,I did move the thermacter wires though. All my smog equipment is long gone.Nothing left except memories.LOL.
