Hesitating problem August 12, 2007, 11:00:51 PM I have a 88 Cougar 3.8 with a little above 76000 miles on it. It hesitates at start and sometimes wants to stall at a stop. Press the gas and you get a split second of nothing that it revs. Just did a tune up plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Oil and tranny fluid as well. ( as a side note while changing the fluid I found that the fluid was the original fluid unless pumped out the top. I still had the plunger in the bottom of the pan which my haynes book says was put in there during manufacturing). Back to the problem I cant figure it out. Anyhelp would be appreciated. Hesitating problem Reply #3 – August 13, 2007, 11:51:32 AM Sounds like low fuel pressure. Check the fuel pressure and change the fuel filter. My 88 cougar with a 3.8 had symptoms like yours when the fuel filter needed changing. When the fuel pump went bad I had much worse problems. Quote Selected
