New to me '85 Cougar

I've always liked this bodystyle Cougar, but never owned one until now. Didn't need another car, but found this one languishing locally, and it was too cheap to pass up. Here it is just as I got it:

Here it is with snowflakes, '95 Cobra springs and Fox Mustang GT swaybars and steering rack:

The handling improvement is incredible.

Interior woodgrain has been changed out for brushed metal trim and a TurboCoupe steering wheel added. Still need a Cougar horn pad.

Future plans include dual exhaust, Mustang GT or TurboCoupe front brakes, and better rear gears (or a complete TC rear axle assembly, if I can find one locally.) The CFI 5.0 is kinda lame, but runs well and doesn't use any oil, so I probably won't do much with it for now. Besides the partial grille blackout, I plan to black out more of the exterior trim as I go along. I also have an XR-7 front bumper cover and foglights to be added.
Its been a fun project so far, and the knowledge I've gained from this forum has been very helpful.

Nice clean car.    The stance on it looks good especially with the larger tires and rims.

Nice ride. I also changed out woodgrain in my bird for the brush aluminum. I like the wheels and lowered stance.

Looks great w/the suspension improvements and different wheels!  It's odd to me to see a stripped down model.  The lower optioned Fox's are rare in my area for some reason.  Very cool car!

Thanks for the kind words. This car has a kinda weird combination of options. The original buyers started with a base model, then added the 5.0 engine, two-tone paint, a/c, tilt, cruise, extra lighting, locking wheel covers and am/fm stereo, but kept the crank windows and manual locks. Base price was $10,844.00, but totaled out at $14,586.97 after options, delivery, taxes and fees. The buyers received $1,200.00 in trade for their '66 Plymouth Fury III at Sloan Lincoln-Mercury in Columbia, TN.

80's Cafeteria - style option ordering. my 85 Cat had the 5.0, tilt, a/c & rear defroster, power mirrors, windows, and full length center console, that's it!! If I only had to pick one of the 4 power options, I'd also have picked just power mirrors.

Oh yeah, my '85 has the rear window defog and interval wipers as well. Forgot to mention those. One of the neat things about this car is that it came with the full set of original dospoogeentation; owner's manual, warranty card, dealer order sheet, window sticker, etc.
Anyhow, one of the cool things about older cars is how much flexibility there was to customize them to the individual buyer's taste. A couple of years ago I ran across a Pontiac station wagon in a salvage yard with woodgrain exterior, 400 2-barrel, bench seat... and a factory four speed manual transmission.
Those kind of oddball combinations just don't happen these days. You're pretty much limited to picking the paint color and option package A, B or C, if that.

So true! Also, I like the TC steering wheel, but you need to get a Cougar center piece!

Agreed! Know where I can get one? I've checked everywhere I know to check, and have had a "Wanted" ad posted in the classifieds section of this site for weeks.
