My truck won't start

Sometimes my truck doesn't want to start. '99 f150 4x4 with the 5.4l, off road and towing packages. When I try to start it, you can hear the relay in the dash click but the starter does not engage. Sometimes simply shifting it into neutral, putting my foot on the brake, and turning the key works. When that doesn't work I have to put it into neutral, get out a physically push the truck forward about 5 feet, get back in, leave it in neutral push on the brake and it will start. I am baffled. I took it one place and they told me they were unable to get it to replicate the symptoms (isn't that how it always works). It only seems to happen when I am parked on an incline. I always back into my spot at work so pushing the truck up the incline sucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

on the side of the trans near the shifter cable. most tranny shops have tools to diagnose symptoms you're having. you may want to look into that.
