Lincoln LSC rear end swap January 10, 2005, 08:39:56 PM At my local junk yard there is a lincoln mark VII. I was planing on getting the 8.8 axle from it (the only drive train part left on it). I've read that it should have 3.27 cogs and a limited slip (I have 3.73's for an 8.8 inch axle). I'm wondering if it will swap out with my 7.5 rear. Being that the licoln rear end has disks instead of drums, will this create a problem? Any help would be great. Quote Selected
Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #1 – January 10, 2005, 11:19:59 PM It will fit under the car, however the LSC rear is a few inches wider than the fox tbird/cougar rear. The best fit is a Turbo Coupe (87&88) 8.8" rear. They come with limited slip 3.55 (stick) or 3.73 (auto). A fox mustang rear will also work but is 1.5" narrower that the 85-88 tbird/cougar. And finally, a sn-95 stang rear will work but will have five lug hubs requiring new rims. Any rear with disks will requre parking break modifications. Quote Selected
Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #2 – January 12, 2005, 08:29:26 PM All Mark VII's are 5 lug as well. There were different options on the rear, limited and open 2.73s and 3.27s. The earlier marks had 7.5 rear ends. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure '88 was when they made the swap to the 8.8s, possibly '87, where is this mark located? I might need the front valance off of it Quote Selected

Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #4 – January 13, 2005, 01:24:24 AM I meant Mark VII. sorry about that! guess I don't know my roman numerals very well. And by the way, this lincoln is in a junk yard in Mills, michigan. I beleve its an 89' because the I took the computer from it and it is mass air not speed density. Quote Selected
Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #5 – January 13, 2005, 09:17:05 AM hmmm... mass air eh? That's news to me. All Mk VII's were speed density from the factory. Quote Selected
Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #6 – January 13, 2005, 01:04:01 PM On this non-tbird rear end subject. I'm getting a Mustang rear, which, as stated, is a bit narrower. What is it that makes the T-bird rear end wider? Is there any way I can swap this stuff over onto the Mustang rear so my wheels are out at the correct track width? Quote Selected
Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #7 – January 14, 2005, 05:43:40 PM The basic difference is the TC axles are wider...the housings are virtually the same so they will swap into the Mustang housing. You would have to use the TC brakes as well. Quote Selected

If has mass air some one converted it, all LSCs were SD from the factory... Quote Selected
Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #9 – January 15, 2005, 12:41:47 AM I swapped out my rear with the mark VII from a 89 or 90. I used the arms from the T-Bird. You will have to run brake lines for it. Mine worked fine and I can't tell that the rear is wider just by looking at it. Quote Selected
Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #10 – January 20, 2005, 06:07:22 AM The e-brake cables are a direct swap. I'm using them now with a TC rear, if I had a mark rear I would not have had to modify the ends... Quote Selected
Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #11 – January 20, 2005, 10:22:28 AM look at the axle code on the door jam, if it's the original axle, it will tell you the ratio as well as wheter or not it's a limited slip or a one legger, I don't remember what letter's represent which rear end set-ups, but I've got that info around the house here somewhere., what other good parts are left on the Mark? Re: Lincoln LSC rear end swap Reply #13 – February 01, 2005, 09:15:32 PM Me and 84blu302 put a 8.8 lincoln rear in his car. Everything worked great, we just didn't hook up the e brake cables. Quote Selected
