Targa Newfoundland

The most awesome GT class road racing event this side of New Zealand. I've been wanting to go to this since I saw the race on telly about two years ago. And I have every intention of doing it some day too.

Targa Newfoundland is a 7 day competition that takes place on a 2200km route through Eastern and Central Newfoundland. 500km of this route is competitive stages where the roads are closed to the public.

The competition is divided into a Prologue Day, and 5 Competitive Legs. Each Leg has 7 - 9 closed-road, timed stages on which the actual competition takes place. Stages are connected by transit sections which are not competitively timed, and where competitors must adhere to the rules of the road.

Here are some of the details from the '04 Targa.

Super Early Bird - $3395.00 ends January 31/05
Early Bird - $3695.00 ends March 31/05
Regular Fee - $3995.00 ends August 31/05

It may seem expensive, but that's for 2200km of cruising and 500km of closed timed stages.

Yeah, it looks like a blast and it's not totally hampered by "liability" issues...ie it's in Canada, not the U.S. (the home of the frivilous law-suit).  The "courses" can be a bit vauge though at times, but the times I've watched it there are some cool ass cars and looks like everyone has fun.
That price includes alot of stuff though..not just entry fees.

And for that price, if they get 50 odd entrants and make $200G, that money has to go to shutting half of the province down for a week. If you think about it, it'll be the best $4G holiday you've ever taken. :grinno:
