Off with its head! June 11, 2007, 12:11:14 AM Well, got the turbo coupe apart today and here's the damage:I may get to it tomorrow but it's not looking good since I forgot about a class I have tomorrow night and it's not at my house. So I guess updates will have to wait till it's done... Quote Selected
Off with its head! Reply #1 – June 11, 2007, 12:12:42 AM Booo hisss. No me gusta blown head gaskets. At least you have a good mechanic on your side. You should have that thing up and running in no time. Quote Selected
Off with its head! Reply #2 – June 11, 2007, 12:14:45 AM shiznit!! What did you do to pull that off? Quote Selected
Off with its head! Reply #3 – June 11, 2007, 12:20:34 AM Like I said in the last thread, I think the boost controller failed and I pounded 25+ psi through the motor. I bought a new boost gauge and am putting in a gillis valve with this new gasket and turning it WAY DOWN until I make sure things are going ok. Quote Selected
Off with its head! Reply #4 – June 11, 2007, 12:20:51 AM Fila that is a 2.3t head gasket. I guess you missed where she said I got the Turbo coupe apart. Quote Selected
Off with its head! Reply #5 – June 11, 2007, 12:24:17 AM I missed the last thread I think Quote Selected
Off with its head! Reply #6 – June 11, 2007, 12:25:47 AM Just a VERY educated guess, but that timing tensioner looks REALLY bad. I'd put money on it freezing and allowing slippage until the timing was way out of wack. Replace that and make sure crank, cam, and dizzy timing are all perfect before assuming it was just a BCS issue. Quote Selected
Off with its head! Reply #7 – June 11, 2007, 12:33:45 AM Brand new timining belt is now on the car, it was BAD! I don't have it all put back together yet but I'm not taking any chances that it wasn't the bcs and I'm turning the boost down. The boost gauge was not working when this all blew up and the overboost buzzer is no longer in the car which bites in a way. But with the money I just shelled out for all the good stuff, I'm not taking chances that I could otherwise control. Quote Selected

Off with its head! Reply #9 – June 11, 2007, 10:13:44 AM I had the WGA seize up on the XR4. THe engine was stock aside from a 3" exhaust and running at 17# boost (non-IC). Never made a peep and idled better than ANY 2.3T I have ever owned. I was driving home from work one day and was starting to hear detonation from the engine. WTF? Then I happened to glance at the boost gauge on the next leave from a stop...oh... I think the 25+# boost might be the issue. :hick:. Got home, replaced the WGA and all was good. My ex had an XR for a while and it had a bad WGA for oh...6 months while she drove it. I don't know how many times we "overboosted" it, but it was alot....survived just fine too.Your's must have had a vary hard life (or just a neglected one). Are those tears from the removal of the head, or did you really blow it up like that? Quote Selected
Off with its head! Reply #10 – June 11, 2007, 11:42:32 AM Head and gasket came off without a hitch, that'show bad I blew it up. I think the guy I got it from beat the shiznit out of it. It'll get better though :) Quote Selected
