I HATE St.Louis! attempted BREAK IN!

so i got home at around 1-130 last night, parked in MY spot in front of my house on the other side of the street (No Parking on my side) lock up and go inside and to bed. i woke up this morning to leave for my Ortho. appointment and as i go to unlock my door, something isnt right. the trim around my 1/4 window is all twisted and crushed. at first i thought a branch hit it because there was a leaf over the crush point. They tried to pry my 1/4 window out so they could reach though an unlock my door i quess. my question is, why didn't they just bust the window out? i had my faceplate on my stereo ( the screen doesn't come on anymore, i dropped it a week or so ago), couple hundred dollars in clothes in the back seat and my amp and sub are in the trunk. good news they didnt get anything, they are obviously to stupid to get into the car so I'm really not worried about the trunk. bad news is if they are that stupid than they might come back. neededless to say I'm kinda pissed. so looks like im shaving those handles and trunk lock sooner than planned.

It could have been a lot worse, I suppose. My brother lives in a good area of Pittsburgh. His Sebring has been nailed three times in the past five years.

Did you report it?

That was what happened to our 84, but we have no idea when it happened. Discovered it at CJ in 03 (I think it was). That's why we need a new wing window for it.

They actually were trying to break the window. Jamming a screwdriver into the trim and prying up on the edge will usually shatter tempered glass. I know this because the crackhead sunuvabitch that broke into my car the first time used that method and permanently damaged the door window trim. Only now that I'm doing bodywork and using the TC trim parts am I repairing the damage because I couldn't find the parts back when it was broken. When they got into the car that time they just grabbed the radio/HVAC bezel and yanked, breaking the screw holes off as well. They then did the same thing to the radio itself, breaking MORE screw holes out. They did irrepairable damage to the dash, destroyed the window trim, and broke a $300 window to get at a $79 stereo. I managed to rig it back together, but it'll be fixed properly when I install the blue dash.

The second time they broke in they simply smashed the 1/4 window. This was right about when I had bought the TC parts car, so I at least had parts. They didn't get the stereo that time, but they did take a bunch of burned CD's out of the back seat.

The worst part of it was that BOTH TIMES the car was broken into it was while my parents were borrowing it!

that shiznit sucks dude, the trims f'd!  that's a beatdown offence right there. :beatyoass: might want to invest some money into a camera.

you can always tell when a car's been broken into, you know you've seen the whatever car with rear window 1/4 glass broken and a hefty bags taped to it.  i see it on cars ALL the time, and truely its pretty sad.  i mean, slimjim, i got your shiznit but i didnt DAMAGE the car b/c i had enough time to quietly get in car and get at the good shiznit.  i dunno i cant even think the way someone would just smash and grab like TC's dash. :punchballs:

I live as far west as one can go and still live in the City of Chicago. Literally I'm 1/4 mile from the subburbs. We have the highest ammount of city workers (of which I'm one) per mile in the city in my area. On my block alone there are two police leutenants, a fire leutenant, and two police sergants. The chief of police for Chicago lives two blocks west of me. My neighborhood is VERY, VERY quiet. If anything happens here the cops, uh, take care of it asap:beatyoass: . You have to pick the areas you live in wisely if you don't want shiznit to happen to you in major cities.

***UPDATE***

so i just talked to one of my other neighbors and it seems my street is a target now. a different neighbor that i talked to has had their car broke into 2 time in the last 2 months and on the same night the tried to get in mine the were in theirs and tried to steal it! ripped the column apart and everything.

so it looks like my suspention will be taking a seat behind my alarm in my budget. I'm looking at $380 installed from my work for the 990. its a 2way  so i know what is goin on all the time.
