O' boy I hope I didn’t injure her

Well I was driving the bird Friday night doing a little cruise on my way to the in-laws house beating on it every now and then when out of no-where I hear a funny noise from under the hood. So I assume it might be a rocker arm but then I think it’s a lose header since I recently worked on the car around Xmas time but never drove it much to retighten them. But threw my straight pipe exhaust I couldn’t hear it right. Then I look at my stock oil pressure gauge on the dash and it says nothing dumb me think it might be faulty it’s probably a lose header or a rocker arm came lose. Then the noise gets a little worse so idiot me nurses it back to my in-laws instead of just pulling over.
Long story short went back there today w/ a manual oil pressure reader and you guessed it no pressure. A friend of mine w/a flatbed is going to pick it up tomorrow a bring to my house.
When I noticed/heard the problem I drove about 5 miles easy, between that and having synthetic oil in it I think I’m not in bad shape its not really making that kinda noise, it sounds more like its staving for oil (sort of like when you first start a car in the morning till oil pressure builds up and it goes away. So I’m going to take a gamble and just put in an oil pump. I don’t really have the money to rebuild my motor.
Any secrets to doing the oil pump. I was thinking ill pull the hood jack the car up undo the motor mounts and hoist it up enough to pull the pan. Am I missing anything or is that the only way im assuming.

what i was taught at nascar tech about installing a oil pump is to pack the entire sump (the part that is constantly under oil anyway) with vasoline.  it's potrolium based, the viscosity is enough that it'll stay in there.  thats the best way possible of priming an oil pump.  if you dont do this, the first time its cranked there will be no oil pressure going through the engine at all for a minute or 2. BAD.  if yoiu go with a stock pump tho, shouldnt be any problem bolting it in.  just dont forget to prime the sump.

dude that sux. i hope you didn't hurt it. i guess when you put the oil pump in you will know. one thing to look for is a black sooty residue on the rod and main caps. if you see it the motor is toast although if you don't see it it is probably a good idea to pull the caps and look at the bearings.

That sucks man,you may have fried it,you definetly wore the bearings,no oil for 5mins under load definetley wore something.
Are you sure you did not break the oil pump shaft???
I'd pull the oil pan and replace all the rod and crank bearings(not that expensive),possibly send the crank out and get it turned 10/10(if it's scored)all in all a new pump/drive,bearings and if the crank needs turning will be about 300bucks.
Better than driving it with worn bearings and toasting the crank, rods, pistons, then it will cost you a ton more.
