What's it worth in the end...

Kind of a vague title, and in NO way am I looking for sympathy here, but...I'm just about fed up with this car...I'm not working right now, gas is higher than I've ever seen it, and...what's really the use of sinking what little money I have into a car that I can't afford to license and insure, let alone buy gas for?
Not so sure I shouldn't just cut my losses, and sell off EVERYTHING (Tbird related), and be done with it till I can get a stable income, and attack this again with a better plan.

Scenario is this: I've had an online relationship for over a year, and as soon as we meet, and spend some physical time together, we're moving me and my 4 dogs, and 1 cat to Wyoming. Whether I drag the (still non-running) Tbird out is entirely up in the air.
My truck DOES run, but needs bearings and tie-rods to pass inspection. Meanwhile while all this is happening, I've got a divorce going through, and to be honest, I'm starting to lose heart about this car, and all the plans I've had for it.

Tell me, what would some of you folks do...put it on hold for now, store it here, or take the loss, and find a Sport or TC later?

For what it's worth, I have lots of free storage, barns, sheds, etc. to keep it in, as well as my other parts.
We've also talked about taking it with us when we go back to Wyoming, but not certain  how soon I will be able to find work there.
I think I may be getting a little burnt-out on it, after all...it's sat for almost 9 months now w/o moving under it's own power.

In ANY case, I will NOT s it. Period.
I made a mistake of stripping my first 3.8 Bird for nothing more than a busted out windshield and rusted trunk pan, not to mention the blown 3.8 that it had, which at that point, i'd already pulled out.

Anywho...just felt like writing an ass-kicker of a post, as I'm sure a lot of y'all have felt this way too, at one time or another...
Sorry it's only about 37 miles long...:flame:

My dad almost gave up on the Chevelle after having it apart for over a year and after having the engine back together at one point only to have it throw a bearing after a few minutes of driving.  But in the end, it's turned out to be worth it, and hopefully you can pull through the same for the Tbird.  I say store it for a while and come back to it later when you're ready.

I kinda agree with kingcars.  I'd store the T-bird near where you're at now and keep all the parts you have.  The parts for these cars will only go up in price.

To me personaly, it's teh fact that I did what most people said I couldn't do with this car. That I own a Tbird and not a rustang. To everyone but us this is just another $500 beater car but to us it's something speical. With alittle work and money, you now have a car you can sit 4 people in and hang with most of the Stang' guys with.

Keep the car man. You'll kick your self every day if you sell it. Store it, find another local member to watch it, something but don't just give it up

My car has held down jackstands since January. I feel like lighting it on fire most of the time. If it wasn't for all the pics of it floating around the net, I probably would have by now. I'm the crazy one that started with a 165,000 mile TC (now 179,000).

wow. im spoiled. :(

this really makes me re-evaluate how i look at my car. sometimes i see that little bit of rust starting in the pass. side rear quarter panel, cringing, thinking "GAHH i gotta get bodywork done on that" obsessing about little things. i should count my blessings. seriously reading that made me feel spoiled. i have NOTHING to complain about. NOTHING. yet i do sometimes.

yeah if youve got tons of storage space, use it! as long as it will keep the car out of the elements fairly well, shack up!:hick:  she'll be there waiting for you when the storm winds down. good luck, sure hope everything works out for ya!

So basically, it comes down to a choice of what to take out to Wyoming first, my truck, or the Bird.
The truck runs, but, needs a driver's door (don't ask) and the bearings/seals/tie rod ends, but otherwise runs, and runs pretty  good, except for a just-off-idle hesitation.

The Bird, well...needs engine harness, cam, and to use the WC T5 from the TC, I need to find a V8 bellhousing, and snag some pedals from a mousesting.

I suppose I should be fair, and say that the house my girl is in, the one we'll live together in, it has a garage. ;)
So if I do end up taking the Bird, it won't be sitting outside..for that matter, it won't anyway.
Decisions, decisions.
I know...maybe I'll sell 'em both and buy a  ole civic with a fart can. NOT.:flame:

Eventually they'll both be out there, but figure if I take the truck first, get a job, and save some money back, I can use the truck to come back in, rent a car dolly, and take the Bird back later this summer. Sounds like a plan to me. :D

I think most of us can tell you all our "I'm gonna get rid of this car" stories. I've had several. I've owned my yellow fox for over 15 years now. It always wanting mo money. It keeps telling me to just fix this one thing and it will love me back, for a few days anyway.
