One wouldn’t think there would be that much to talk about.

Well Jim, as you can see from the postings in this thread, white is not always white. Through a collaborative effort we all learned quite a bit...which is the purpose of this board, is it not? ;)

For 1984 I'm showing 1M as Pastel Charcoal...it is most certainly the same color as 1M from 1983. I'm not showing 1J in my paint chips but again, remember that I have only L-M books. That is probably a correct interpretation though.

You know, I think I was the only one I knew that ever liked that sage green Bird I had. Everyone else thought it was an ugly colour. It looked really good with the chrome Cragar rims and white letter tires. It was an odd shade of green - the metallic component almost gave it a goldish tint. Even the buddy of mine that bought an '85 the same colour as mine but with tan interior hated it and painted it a darker green.

Ford is now painting Mustangs in a similar colour, but more greeny and less goldy. One of the better looks on the Mustang, IMO - a retro colour on a retro car

Exactly...and it can even photograph like that, so much so that you'd swear it's gold and not green. That's the kind of subtlety I'm talking about. It's too bad we're 20 years hence...to see these on the new car lot in their original shape, with all the different colors, I think a lot of people would see them with new eyes. Maybe there wouldn't be so many ed black, red and white ones out there now... ;)

FILA, the 1J is Charcoal, which is your bottom paint. My 84 TBird book shows it (no, not for sale, stop asking :hick: )

I really like all the subtle colors these cars got. The 83/84 in that bluish Charcoal color we talked about a few weeks ago is really nice! I made John buy an 84 TC :D It's a 2-toner as well, with the break at the bodyline up by the windows instead of the molding like FILA. It's black on top and Charcoal on the sides (I think). I'm going to see it this weekend to get all the info for the registry.

THIS is why it's important to have Paint color AND paint code for the  registry!
