Selling my beloved yellow cat.......possibly.

I had a guy ask me today if i was interested in selling my yellow cat. (heavy sigh). I hate to say this, but I am seriously considering it. I'm broke, past broke actually. I know everyone doesn't like the wing (but i do :D ), but anyone have any idea what a fair price would be for the car. Below is what I can remember for now. I have more money in this than I car to mention, but it still needs allot (in my opinion anyway). Car was originaly a 3.8 w/a 3 speed auto on the column and typical 7.5 rear.

MODS
Car dynoed at 5.8fastcat's place w/265 @ the rear wheels
mustang 5 speed
5 lug w/16" mustang wheels/fairly new bfg radials
rear is an 8.8 out of a lincoln. Told 3.73 but may be a 3.08(?)
1984 Block 5.0 Liter Ford Motor rebuilt as 5.0 HO, machined .010/. 010/. 030 and converted to roller block
Edelbrock Aluminum Heads #6037
Edelbrock Upper/Lower Intake #3821
Edelbrock 65mm TBI/EGR #3824 & #3827
Edelbrock Camshaft #3722
Edelbrock Timing Chain Set
Modine #3 Row High Efficiency Radiator
Interactive Systems & Technologies Mass Airflow System w/24# Fuel Injectors
Summit Racing 155 liter/hr fuel pump
True 2½ Dual Exhaust
K&N Air filter
High Performance Starter w/Heat Shield
New rear rotors
New Master Cylinder
CD Player
AC rebuilt, blows cold
Functional wing that actualy takes rain at 65mph and throws it on the back window - kinda neat, except for the mess it makes on the window

ISSUES
The body isn't too bad, but it needs to be gone over with some new metal.
Rear brake lights are out - again
Front brakes slowly lock up after 20+ minnutes of driving
needs sunvisors
Dash board padding needs replaced
Passenger door lock has issues, but function
Header panel (overhead interior) needs replaced
Rear defroster no longer functions

Maybe a few small mods and minor issues, but that is all I can think of for now. Thanks for any feedback, and please no nasty comments since this is a depressing thought to begin with, but I am tired of feeding the beast. I've had this car for about 16 years when it had 60,000 miles on it, now it has almost 205,000.

to start out as a basic car without all the stuff you have done , it would be reasonable to ask 500 bux.

with all the stuff you have done that makes it a turn key performer or more vehicle, id say you would need atleast 2500-2900 as a starting price.

and thats cheap and probably at a loss.  you have to factor in the fact your new parts have depreciation or wear and tear.

Victor (right?) looks like you've got quite a collection.  If the guy will pay you what the car's worth to you... ok, at least a reasonable price... I'd probably go ahead and sell it.  If you're up front with him about the issues you have with it and he still wants it, go ahead with it.  I agree with Scott's price figure.  $2000-ish area seems to be fair.  The motor's had a lot of work done & a 20 yr old car with working A/C is a rare find, honestly.  It's your call, but I think if I were you, I might seriously consider selling it, considering the body isn't 100%.

You might have to change your board user ID if you do sell it, though.  ;)

Man, I have always loved that car. (and the wing) and would buy it in a heart beat if I was still working.  I'm still contemplating making my '85 sort of a tribute to it, LOL.

I would expect to get between $2500 and $3000 for it if I was you.

I didn't know it had all those engine mods.

I know what's like to be broke and having to choose. It sucks choosing between your car with sentimental value and cold hard cash, but sometimes you have to make rough decisions. I hated parting out darkthunder, but life showed it's ugly hand and I had to do what I had to do. I don't regret my decision at all. Just make sure you won't regret yours either and all will be good.

I think you should be able to get +$2000 for it.

i would tell him 3,500 just give him a build sheet on the car and tell him your in a bind for cash i don't really like the wing but i know how much it costs to mod these cars and i would at least give you some money for it if i could buy it.

1987 T-Bird AEROBIRD-GT had many many mods but is now totaled and is the car that made me want to start customizing everything all over again.

Drove it to work today. Sometimes I forget what 265 rear wheel torque feels like. I actaully got the tires to spin in third gear, that was a surprise, but it sure felt pretty cool.

He's not 100%, and I would rather sell the 86' Turbo. My son is driving the 86' blue for now, and the 88' is peronal to me to, since it is how I met my girlfreind.
Actually, I'm hoping he shy's away from the yellow car idea. I think I would have to take FMLA for a week(j/k).

Yes, this car means more to me than any car I've ever had before. The Mach1 was a cool car, but this one has been made to be what it is for me, of course it is not done yet.. My girlfreind even said today, don't do something you'll regret. She is so cool. Man do i love that woman. :D
There is not one piece of the original drive train left on this car, and my plans were originaly to totaly customize the interior. Body will stay original........with fill in's of course.

I really need to get that list of parts from my parts car on here soon. That might help me to make it through.

Thanks each and everyone for your input. It is very much appreciated.
