Mans Best Friend

I've had the same dog since i before i was a year old, a German Short-Haired Pointer. he was a rescue dog from a shelter and had all kinds of problem an was good as dead. 17 years later he finally passed, after a few weeks of hard times and the last few days of hell. This is just a tribute to something that can never be replaced. now i know how everyone else has felt on here that has lost their pet.

Sorry to hear, it's never easy to lose a pet.

17 years is a long time for a dog though, so consider yourself lucky to have gotten that long :)

I never though I was that attached to my first dog until he was gone. He was like one of my kids. It was very tough so I know how you feel. Be happy for the time you had and the memories that will last a lifetime.

I feel for you. It's a family member all the way. When my dog Shelby died,I said "no more dogs for me".She was THE dog.1/2 Shephard,1/2 Siberian Husky, and wicked smart.I sure did love that dog.My wife has a dog,I have a cat,Chloe. She's my "Cub".She has NO idea that she's a cat, though.I'm not telling her,it would break her heart to find out.As far as she's concerned, she's just a really short person with a snobby attitude.

That's tough, man. And like someone said, they are our kids. We had Buffy for years before Coira came along. 17 years, though. That's a full life.

My parents just lost one of their dogs this past month also. We had him since 1992 Shepard Husky mix. I think it was harder on their other dog than it was on my parents. Everytime I walk in the house shes sitting at the top of the stairs looking at the door. When you walk in she just gets up and leaves. As if to say I was looking for my friend not you.

Sorry to hear of your loss, we lost our dog after 15 years and she was our first kid, many times I told the wife we should have stopped with her.  At the time I didnt think I could go through the agony again but we did get another dog about 8 months later. She certainly doesnt replace the first but she is her own character.

We had to give away our Yellow Lab of 8 years after it bit my little brother's face.  It was hard enough sending it to a family friend.  I couldn't imagine what it would be like having on die.  That must be terrible.  Sorry.
