Cat is idling fast and wants to Jump. March 30, 2007, 12:46:41 PM Ok here is the deal. My 87 Cougar when I start it up displays the service light and sometimes sounds normal and other times the choke won't kick off. Then on top of that when I go to stop at a stop sign or traffic light, the car still wants to jump forward and get going. Does anybody know what the problem here is? I checked all the vacuum hoses and they all look fine? Ideas? Quote Selected

Cat is idling fast and wants to Jump. Reply #3 – April 20, 2007, 12:39:22 PM Ok, so my dad thinks that I have a partially plugged fuel filter. The car when idling now will die most of the time. Especially at traffic lights and what not, so I have to start er back up once or twice. It runs alright every now and then maybe due to the fact that the sediment or whatever is clearing out. What do you guys thing? Quote Selected

Reply #4 – April 21, 2007, 10:46:42 AM Check for vacuum leaks, clean the idle air control valve.Change out the filter as well, even if it isn't the problem, it wouldn't hurt. The service light that comes on sounds like the service interval reminder that stays lit for 1-3 miles of driving. There isn't a problem with the car, it's just a reminder that you reset. I can't remember which buttons you press but if you have the owners manual to the car, it will tell you. Quote Selected

Cat is idling fast and wants to Jump. Reply #6 – April 23, 2007, 06:55:38 AM kinda off topic, but i noticed when i tried to ignore the service light in my digi dash (i changethe oil every 2500mi) but i was always just got too busy to get that lil light reset. eventually my speedo went dead basically... just like a calculator does when it goes dead.but yeh, go to autozone or a place like that and pick up a manual for your cougar. it'll explain a lot about the car, plus teach you how to get the codes from the ecu. im not sure its just a filter. could be, but i just dint think an airfilter would stop a car in my opinion....
