NOS 1983 T-Bird Message Assy Reply #2 – April 05, 2007, 06:57:41 PM That is either a leftover part from a 1980-82 Thunderbird...or it is a prototype part that got assigned a 1983 part number, got produced, but was never actually installed in a production car, yet was still available via the Ford parts counter. I have a similar part in my collection (1988 TC-style door panel inlay, no power door locks, but memory seat switch - never in production in the U.S. or Canada) that I acquired last year. It may be a 1989 Mexican Thunderbird/Cougar part since the Fox body carried over to '89 there. But it's still an anomoly.Anyway, you can see the two wafer board electrical connectors, similar to an ATC panel. But that looks way too skinny and small to be an ATC panel.So...if you feel froggy, leap. Go for it. I'd like to know more about it myself, as that part does not show up in my database at all. NOS 1983 T-Bird Message Assy Reply #3 – April 05, 2007, 08:16:54 PM Your comments kicked my mind into action. It looks like the back of either the clock or the tripminder, sort of. Maybe it's a warning chime? That and the tripminder use the same connector on the back. I have an '87 and I already have a tripminder so I'm not going to buy it. If it's some cool prototype then some lucky person with an '83 should get it (though for all I know, it's just a warning chime or a hoax -- who knows). Of course, it's not like it's expensive. NOS 1983 T-Bird Message Assy Reply #4 – April 05, 2007, 09:28:34 PM Ah yeah...that could be the talking chime module...I still can't find a p/n for that, but it could be what that is. Quote Selected
NOS 1983 T-Bird Message Assy Reply #5 – April 05, 2007, 10:34:53 PM This is the only reference in my wiring diagrams to anything that might be a "Message" thingy:The wires coming from it lead to various systems: Alarm, door switch, light switch, etc. I wonder if that's what that thing is... NOS 1983 T-Bird Message Assy Reply #6 – April 05, 2007, 11:29:56 PM I haven't found anything in my '87 wiring diagrams, which show the actual connector outlines. Only the tripminder and the two warning chimes (one supports door ajar warnings and one doesn't) show that connector. I couldn't find a voice module in the '87 diagrams (I presume Ford took it out by then). Looks like a genuine mystery (either an eBay hoax or the rarest of the rares...who knows) Quote Selected

The 1983 Ford shop manual I have lists it as the Voice Alert Message Assembly. I am assuming they are the same thing, since they both have a part number of 10D974. Quote Selected
