Loss of power on turns April 05, 2007, 12:03:54 PM Is there a common problem with this? IF taking a long right hand turn on ramp for highway, car looses power. Fuel guage also dips down to about 1/8 tank. (with a half tank of fuel). Im guessing its a bad baffle in the tank and its gonna need a new one. But i just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this problem. Quote Selected
Loss of power on turns Reply #1 – April 05, 2007, 03:39:02 PM that or your power steering pump is loading the engine excessively for some reason. she whinin' ALOT? (they all whine quite audibly even in perfect shape, but if its reaaaalllly grating and loud then there might be an issue. Quote Selected
Loss of power on turns Reply #2 – April 05, 2007, 05:12:19 PM If the fuel gauge is showing a different reading during turns,it could be your tank/fuel pump/sending unit. Quote Selected
Loss of power on turns Reply #3 – April 05, 2007, 05:43:07 PM No, no whining in the p/s. I just put a new fuel pump in couple months agao, and a fuel filter yesterday. Quote Selected
Loss of power on turns Reply #4 – April 05, 2007, 06:12:00 PM sounds like an autozone gas tank my 86 does the same thing accept sometimes it stalls out completely! Quote Selected
Loss of power on turns Reply #5 – April 05, 2007, 09:44:57 PM Baffle in the tank:hick: :wtf: There is no baffles in our tanks, mine will do it only on turns when accelerating with under 1/4 tank, without baffles it's normal as the fuel sloshes completeley from side to side.In your case though with 1/2 tank i would say there is a problem. Loss of power on turns Reply #6 – April 06, 2007, 05:42:36 PM Sounds like the low fuel issues,As far as I know it has always been an issue with 83-88 Tbird and cougars exsp the turbo cars as the fuel demand is much higher then the 3.8 or 5.0. Mine gets the dreaded power loss at around a 1/4 tank mostly because of how flat our tanks are. Quote Selected
Loss of power on turns Reply #7 – April 07, 2007, 03:17:59 PM See if having more fuel in the tank cures it. Then you will know Quote Selected
Loss of power on turns Reply #8 – April 09, 2007, 04:00:25 PM So your sayin there is no baffles in these tanks..hmmm..(didnt know that). Yeah..seems like anything over 1/2 tank runs good. I just cant see having to keep more than a 1/2 tank of gas to keep it running normal. Oh well..must be a blue oval thing...lol Quote Selected

Loss of power on turns Reply #10 – April 09, 2007, 05:03:03 PM i drive mine on nearly empty frequently. :hick: i cant help it i let it get down to like 3, 2 gals cuz i just dont get around to going to the gas station. then i yell in "mom im gonna go get gas" "why are you low? how low is it?" "uh...its like 3 gallons" "WHAAAAT!!!!!???? STOP DOING THAT!!!" she gets angry when I let it go that long, worries very much about me running out and being stranded on the side of the road. She is probably my biggest barrier to attending CatJam this year, but I really want to, so I gotta convince her otherwise. Quote Selected
