graduation project

im dong a project on dfferent types types of gasolines. i kno that the higher the octane the slower it burns, but are higher octanes any better on fuel economy? i ran each type through that cougar and did find that 93 octane was a little better, but with the way i drive its hard to tell if thats acurate. anybody kno if one burns cleaner then another. any info about gasoline in general would be greatly appritiated.

I think it more/less depends on the car. For instance my dad's Hemi Ram, according to the owners manual, should run with no less than 89. Sure enough, it gets much better mileage with 89 than 87.

My 4 banger tib on the other hand gets worse mileage with 89 than 87.

I think if you're looking into a project for different types of gas, you should compare E-85 to traditional gas. I don't know what you need to do for your project though so that might not work.

I've always understood the differences in octanes related to their ability not to pre-ignite under pressure.  i.e. - High-compression motors & forced induction needs higher octane so the extra pressure doesn't ignite the fuel before the plug fires.

In my turbo sprint I get about 42MPG on 87 but on 91 I get 47-48.

This is all if I stay out of the boost as much as possible and keep it under 110km/h on the highway, I average about 40 with my driving :D

It would be cool to play around with water injection, heated intakes etc.
